I read Illusions perdues earlier this year, my first Balzac, and it's one of the best novels I've read in a long time. I definitely plan on reading more.

What I've read by him is baller as hell. The stories are kinda fun but mostly insubstantial. Cousine Bette is amazing. Nineteenth Century incels apparently all women since men just went to a whore. Said miserable bitch rocks up against the rest of the society then enters devious revenge mode. Also features non white people as exotic creepy mystery folk and plenty of shitting on French society

Lost illusions made me more cynical and suspicious of people

I liked the magic skin
