Time to become a PoMo feminist queer-gender non-binary deconstructionist so you can dismantle the classics for the patriarchal misogynistic fascist rags that they are and place your shit poems at the top of the newly vacated pedestal of the Western Canon.

Young poets are the shittiest artists. The entry level threshold for poetry is so low literally everyone can try and write a poem in their lifetime. At least a novel is long and it requires time to write - not everyone is willing to write 150 pages of the same stuff. But amateur poetry is mostly trash.
Add to this the fact that nobody reads anymore today, and that even less people than those who read, read poetry. If what you want is people to "care about your writing" poetry is definitely the wrong path. Again, go for novels, go for screenplays. That way you have a chance to be "cared about".
But again, the idea that people should "care" for what you do is the lowest possible motivation not only to write but to do anything. Only the pseud and the woman do things to be looked at by other people. If you really like doing something and you are dedicated to it, you do it independently from the possible outcomes - especially if it is something for which you just need pen and paper, and not expensive equipment and money. People caring about your work should not make any difference. If you want to be appreciated and looked at by others you should exercise, be clean and buy nice clothes, it works much better.
Finally, the fact that someone is considered better than you at something should again not be a determining factor in you doing that thing - because again, if you really love doing something, you love it in itself, not according to the outcomes. The outcomes are for others. If you are incapable of appreciating an activity for the activity in itself, and you perform things to be looked at or appreciated, you may as well go directly for the appreciation. Again, exercising, being clean, wearing nice clothes can work miracles. Maybe being sociable and talking to people, trying to act normal in a social setting as well. These are the things you should learn if you want to be appreciated, and if you are disturbed by the fact that some people (being "the Classics" or just Chad) are more appreciated than you. Quit this bullshit about becoming a poet if you want to be desired, and work to become desirable instead.

No, I'm not the type of person to write bcause I merely want people to care about me, but it frustrates me that no matter how much I try to express myself through writing I'll never have the artistic talent of those before me.
Sometimes I sit down and look over the things I've written and I'm overwhelmed by disappointment because it feels like I should have done better.
Don't get me wrong, I love what I'm doing and I'd never go as low as writing just for a false sense of importance, but I'm not as good at it as I'd want to be.

sounds like you want attention and appreciation, and /lit/ is just the arbitrary path you've chosen to get it.
The authors of classics weren't trying to impress anyone, or to be admired. They had a genuine creative impulse and they were lucky enough to have the means to commit it to paper (or something).
It's never gonna work if you try to force it. You need to be ok with yourself first and then you might produce something really good!

I write advice guides for niche communities I'm a part of and they've gotten a few hundred thousand views and helped people. It's the most read post in a community that gets about ~400k uniques a month. I just stuck around a community for years, stayed very active, learned a little pieces of knowledge bit by bit, did research, and wrote a fairly sloppily written but excellently researched guide. Zero artistic talent needed.

Why is /lit/ so insanely narcissistic that they're depressed that they feel they have to write the next modern classic or become a talented poet to not be a failure? Maybe write something for a smaller niche audience? Or play to your talents instead of being like "hurp derp I must be a creative poet genius" despite not having any creative talent? Why not just write something good that will make other people happy instead of chasing your narcissistic fantasies? You could write the classic of our era and /lit/ would still think you're pathetic and you would still be disappointed in yourself.

it's too bad all the anti-communism of the cold war lead us to teach every kid that they can be a rockstar and are better than any of their peers in order to keep them from having class solidarity and organizing, i mean it wasn't a bad strategy, it certainly helped kill unions and drive down wages, but now everyone is miserable when they don't turn out to be an immortal lyric poet or the next steven p jobs

>> No.11219371

Just post a blog or whatever and post poems to it whenever you write them and try to get genuine feedback from your audience and hope it grows over the course of a few years as you get better. I don't imagine anything else really working today.
