>Scandinavian
Are we including or excluding Finland? Finland isn't actually Scandinavia but it's still in the picture, or are you referring to the Scandinavian Peninsula?

'Ordet'', by Kaj Munk. They made an excellent film of that one as well. Based on a lot of Kierkegaards writings.

'Master Olof' by Strindberg. Based on the story of the protestant reformation in Sweden, hugely influential play when it was first written and continues to be.

Hard to tell without knowing what you'd appreciate. It's one hell of a divisive, multilayered story. I'd say read-watch-read and make up your own mind. It lends itself to analysis if you're into christian theology.

A shared history makes the grouping relevant even though it's not geographically correct. Some of the most famous finish books are written in swedish so when in this case it's a definitely correct.

The Egyptian is really good and the religious conflict between Amon and Aten (or their worshippers) is a major part of it.

Waltari’s other historical novels are also good and feature religious themes.

>Michael The Finn(The Adventurer), takes place in 16th Europe, reformation, Inquisition etc.

>The Wanderer, sequel to the previous book, the main character ends up in Suleiman’s court and converts from Christianity to Islam.

>The Dark Angel, describes the final days of the siege of Constantinople, lots of church politics etc.

Grundtvig wrote half of the song book and most of the songs are to jesus - he's theology is also together with Kierkegaard the most essential danish theology. It's because of him that people sing in the danish churches.

Henrik Stangerup's historical trilogy. These three books are inspired by Kierkegaards concept of the three stages of life: the aesthetic, the ethical and the religious.
The entire trilogy deals with religion in some way or another (especially "Broder Jacob" for obvious reasons) , and I cant recommed them enough.

The film version of Ordet had me in tears. A masterpiece.
