Havent read in like a year and looking to get into a hige book. Liked IJ, Count of Monte Cristo, Don Quixote, and Brothers K. Couldnt get into les mis. Not a huge fan of postmodern stuff like Pynchon but somehow DFW seems to have a relateable thought process and sense of humor so he's an exception for me

Thomas Mann, all his novels are long. Joseph and his Brothers particularly.

I don't remember exactly how long it is, but maybe you'd like The Leopard?

A huge book, eh? Does it have to be fiction?

If so, I guess there's Proust.

If not, how about Gibbon's Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire? Or Shelby Foote's 3-volume history of the American Civil War?

War and Peace is a safe bet, if you have not already read it. Check the wiki also for recommendations.

How does this compare to Magic Mountain? Started reading that one a while ago after reafing Norwegian Wood but got distracted with something else. I remember liking it though

Beautifully-written garbage. Basically rips off the historian Zosimus in its central thesis. Blames Christianity for the fall of Rome (but conveniently ignores that the Eastern Roman Empire lasted 1000 more years and was even MORE Christian than the West).
In short, it is delectably-written, but in terms of historical merit fit only for a paperweight. Oh and Rome fell because of poor military reforms.
