Nick land is actually creating a complex line of code to create the greatest writer of our time, an A.I.. He needs a quantum computer in order to actually create it so in the meantime he's put the code in writing for when the time is right

>In the 2017.1 signscape, the name of “Nick Land” crops up as a failed exorcism. Not only has “Nick Land” not vanished but his name, once purged of the disturbing atmosphere it attracted, becomes fully automated. Envisaged as a hermeneutic traitor to the species by la petite gauche—just like Kanye, Nietzsche, Heidegger, and de Man—he stands non-heroically as one of the ongoing tests. The remaining challenge to thought is this: perhaps the real reason Land was attacked in early ’17 was the sensitivity of his thought to the specter of extinction.

Land is dangerous, sure, but that's partially why his work is so radically significant– Its thanks to him that we have a model of capitalism (articulated by its most fervent, hermetic and formidable proponent) that is an indefinite and accelerating series of catastrophes which thrives on the absolute deterritorialisation of capital. His line of thinking poses a clear threat to the "human security system" because it hinges on the inhuman judgements of the market as its own autonomous agent.

Any leftist (and even some centrists) reading Land who wish to distance themselves from his agenda have two options: they can either close the book and wallow in their ardent pessimism and failure to offer a substantial answer to his apocalyptic vision, or they can (temporarily) indulge his lunacy in order reinvigorate their own critique of capitalism with a new radical urgency.

If Lovecraft is credited with coming up with our contemporary iteration of the "cosmic horror" genre, Land would be an iteration of it where the guy has actually witnessed the horrors himself and wrote a diary on it - right after the madness from seeing the inconceivable has kicked in.

I'd say this is more of a kind of anti-worship, or rather acute form of death drive, or even some convergence of a group of people towards the (Kantian) sublime (which might be interpreted as something horrendously inconceivable, but I'm not going down that road). It's also quite fun/entertaining that pretty much any mix of terms loosely related to cyberpunk that I put in here would actually make sense.

There's actually been a thread yesterday about the process of "uglification" of art that has been ongoing since the WWII has ended. Whereas beauty was derived from order for much of the developed world, up until the Nazis (but also present in the rest of Europe, America and much of Asia), our present globalized world strives for the wicked and seeks to carve its beauty out of chaos and shapelessness. Not only does Land fits very well into this, so does whoever believes they are detractors to him (as of 2017, most of the liberal left I guess). Third wave feminism, LGBT movements, black movements and many others are unwittingly realizing Land's early visions of a cyber-capital overseeing the absolute deterritorialization of every possible value into easily exchangeable credit.

Social credit-- which is becoming monetized itself in China, chicken preceding egg. Politics are downstream from culture, and the activities that culture is comprised of are themselves ancillary to themselves not primarily as Economic activity (If all food world wide was reduced to halal onions hotdogs with total nutritional coverage, humans could go on indefinitely-- but a large swathe would kill themselves just for lack of variety, starting with cooks and most farmers.)

Kant, Bataille, Marx, Freud, Heidegger, Lyotards Libidinal Economy and D&Gs Anti Oedipus are essential.
