I just got done with a punctuation only reading of Moby Dick and I already feel the benefits. It has transformed my appreciation of the book tenfold by allowing me to put aside the surface level distraction that is the prose and instead zero in on the actual structure of the work, the framework that allows the prose to flourish.

I find that after several rereadings that a punctuation only reading is almost like the final boss of a work, without doing one I can't really claim to have understood the work.

just watch Neil de Grasse tyson videos and post on Reddit until the end of fucking time

Shit like this is produced by bourgeois think tanks to make the middle class complacent while the rich steals all their fucking money and uses literal slaves in the third world to make their trendy glitter iPhone cases.

Go sit in a park with your sweetie! (DON'T HAVE ONE, ALL SOCIAL RELATIONS HAVE DEGENERATED TO ORGYPORGY PROLEFEED NIGHTMARE)

"Optimistic nihilism" is what rich faggots pay slightly less rich faggots to convince lumpenproles to think they're experiencing when they work in a cubicle for 45 years to finance a lifestyle of watching proles modify Nerf guns and design "man caves". I am sick and tired of this. Every day I come to /lit/, and every day there is at least one thread up with an OP image of an attractive woman dressed scantily and posing seductively. It's probably the same one or two people who do it honestly. Let me tell you something, you faggot pieces of shit who are doing this: you are the poster child for everything that is wrong in literature, art, and society as a whole today. You are incapable of coming up with anything creative, thought provoking, or of substance, and you lack even the smallest modicum of intelligence, so you use "style" and "flash" and pizazz in place of it and to draw attention to yourself, because that's the only way your SHIT "creation" and ideas would ever get seen by anyone. And before you say anything, this has NOTHING to do with the fact that I don't have a girlfriend. Anyway, I will be petitioning the owner of this website to ban your asses, so enjoy being able to post here while it lasts, because it's not going to last long, just like you that one time you convinced an obese girl to let you fuck her.

why bother reading someone who couldn't even live with himself. the only sincere moment in the life of David Foster wallace was when he kicked away the chair. the rest of his life was a lie, the new sincerity was a joke whose punchline was the creaking of a leather belt around the rafter.his literary career was a menagerie of self help lies told to keep his depression at bay. the audience pussy and drugs were the ghosts at that feast of hypocrisy. the depression was warranted because behind all the gimmicks and the self awareness and the bandannas was no discernible talent

I think you're just crazy dude. I've never EVER heard of such a thing - FROM ANYONE.

Sounds like a boring, fruitless way to spend your time. Punctuation is worthless without context.

>> No.11156576

Punctuation-only readings are valuable of course, but a bit austere.

Personally I prefer NOUN-ONLY READINGS.

These strip away all those annoying, distracting, frenetic verbs and weak, womanly, cloying adjectives, and concentrate on the true STRUCTURE of the work. (We also get rid of proper nouns and pronouns, obviously.)

Reading a noun-only edition of a book is a strangely calming experience. Additionally, these editions are much shorter, which enables one to read as many as four great books a day.

Here's the openings of a few famous novels in noun-only format. Whoever identifies them first will win a Valuable Prize:

1) fence spaces flag fence grass tree flag

2) village gentlemen lance rack target horse greyhound

3) love chaplain love hospital pain liver jaundice

4) years money purse shore world spleen circulation

Also, here's a quick shill for my post two places up, on Noun-Only-Readings. That Valuable Prize remains unclaimed. I'm not saying it definitely is 1 BTC but I'm not denying it either.

>All these anons not realizing that writers many times read like this in order to learn and improve their flow trough punctuation

I do it. When I stumble across a work with a very different style of punctuation I sometimes pay more attention to the way the writer punctuates than everything else.
