Is violent collapse the only way out?

I download this book by accident on /lit/ a while ago. Found it later and read it without knowing who wrote it and what it was. Honestly thought it was written 1 or 2 years ago since it's relevant in today's age. I was in shock when I found out this book was written in 1995. Funny and sad.

attempted mass change through violence would fuel reactionaries much more than accomplishing it's own goals
if it collapses under it's own weight the system have proved it's own lack of worth, and if it doesn't collapse then violent revolt would've been a mistake anyways

you know, the question is why did we evolve to this point. homo sapiens co evolved with their technology, to erase technology would mean erasing humans. maybe with some genetic engineering me might create a human-animal, capable of comfortable survival without technology. nevertheless his theory is obviously seductive
