I’m trying to read a few Japanese blokes.
>Murakami, Haruki. “Kafka on the Shore.”
>Mishima, Yukio. “Sun and Steel.”
I’ll also read Camus’ “The First Man” once I’m done with Murakami.

Everybody in these threads tell you to start reading Greek philosophy and the Homerics like you have any chance of understanding what the fuck they are talking about. Its much better to a class or read a couple introductory books before you open up a translation of an over two thousand year old poem. Its really hard to imagine that you would understand the use of epithets or be able to understand the significance of the rants or omens or even most of the dialogue. Also most of the Illiad requires background knowledge about Paris and Agamemnon that the book doesn't provide. Trust me, as a philosophy and history student, you'd be surprised how many seniors and grad students come into a class and miss-analyze vital passages of ancient texts
