Who should I read before Hume? I am especially interested in his conception of causality.
Also, does anyone know of any especially good companions?

There is no real prerequisite to Hume, but some of the readings will be enriched with a prior reading of Aristotle and Aquinas

I started with Hume and would recommend anyone who is interested in philosophy to do the same. Enquires are easier to read than the treatise.

I'm a pretty good companion, mostly just because. Not miraculous, but my possibility is spectacular.

Locke is his most immediate precursor. Hume is responding to Locke in the same way Kant is responding to Hume.
But actually he's such a readable guy, very lucid prose, you can dive right in and not get lost.
