Is it possible to write a high quality literate big robot/mecha Military SF story the same way Space Opera has been rekindled as a legitimate form?

No, because robots and mechas will never work. Way too complex, way too fragile and way too inefficient. The closest anyone has come is probably Keith Laumer with his "Bolo" series. Or Fred Saberhagen with his Berserker series. I have tried both but couldnt make it more further than a few pages.

that would be great

Gaskun has made the Space Opera genre great again!

I included one in what I am writing, I think if you keep the mechs in the background of a story that is partially grounded in reality then it could work.

I'm writing a literate sci-fi novel that heavily features big robots / mechas, inspired by Ishiguro, Swanwick, and Gundam. The basic explanation for mechas is that (in a Dune-esque manner) artificial intelligence is outlawed, so technological development is focused on enhancement and augmentation of human abilities, with the humanoid form of the mechas being one natural result of this process.

You can write about any sort of weird stuff and make it high quality literature. Look at the bible

Since when has space opera been rekindled as a legitimate form?

Not sarcastic, i’m actually curious, because I haven’t heard of any getting mainstream literary attention.

It hasn't been, which is a shame, there isn't really any good, literate space opera.

But the odds are heavily stacked against you if you opt for cliche-ridden mush like space opera.
