I like that I have to buy other books just to understand what his books mean, and thankfully there is a whole industry dedicated to this end.

Having only read Solider of The Mist I can only really comment on how effortless he is to read despite not being brainlet-tier. I seemingly blinked and had 300 pages read and enjoyed every bit of it.

Kinda sad Latro probably isn’t getting the ending he deserves.

How much longer will Wolfe Senpai live? I'm guessing he's got at least another 3-5 years left in him. Enough time for one more masterpiece.

I keep expecting him to die but he just keeps trucking along, it's pretty impressive.

Maybe some day he'll respond to a letter I wrote him about two years ago.

Should I read this guy if I hate genre fiction?

Read Peace, it's the most literary thing he's written. If you like that, check out the rest of his stuff.

Depends on why you hate genre fiction.

If you just hate it because it's generally bad, then you should give his work a chance.

This. Or try The Fifth Head of Cerberus. If you just want to get a general feel for his style, try some his short stories. I'd recommend The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories, The Hero as Werwolf, A Cabin on the Coast, or The Last Thrilling Wonder Story to name a few.

Sev is writing the in-universe version of BOTNS right before going off to be judged by the heirogrammates, as a way of justifying his life so far and convincing himself that he really is the New Sun.
Claiming to have a perfect memory lets him gloss over some things that he isn't sure about and make it seem like everything that happened served to make him the savior of Urth, something he doesn't actually really know or care about until the end of the book.

That's my take, at least.

I thought it was merely to justify his rule as Autarch to the people of the commonwealth, so they would take him not only as the recipient of the Autarchy, but also of the mantle of the New Sun.

But he only makes two copies of the book. One copy gets put into Ultan's library where presumably nobody will ever find it, and the other gets thrown into space.
That, along with his mentions of a "hypothetical reader," make me think that Sev never intended for anyone to ever read it.
