im trying to write a romance novel but i've never been in a relationship before. where do i start?

Why would you write an entire novel about a topic you know nothing about? Seriously anon, what are you thinking? I don't know shit about sharks so I'm not writing a non-fiction textbook about them because that would be fucking silly, wouldn't it? If you want to be a hack just go read a bunch of romance novels and steal their formula. If you want to write something closer to literature you have to actually have lived experience to pull from.

Write what you know.

Write about unrequited love, maybe loving someone unreachable from afar. Maybe have a character that is a dream-sprite or some other unreal figure that your main character has a 'relationship' with, imagining and creating a whole relationship with her without knowing the reality of a real relationship.

Your position of never having been in a relationship could mean you're in a position to write some unique and interesting romantic fiction
