it was good. I liked all the history with Trujillo and how the story wove into that. But having read Drown and then waiting forever on Wao, I was somewhat underwhelmed.
I wouldn't ever make the contention that he was top-5-Am-lit level, but Drown was pretty great. Diaz can really write when he wants to but his popularity I think is more meme status since plebs latched onto Wao's nerd culture signals similar to Ready Player One.

Well, this is from my experience. I'm not a fan of poetry in English tbqh much less American poetry. Philosophy? Americans are anything but philosophers. But yeah, painting should've been a 7 at least. And they are the most skilled at filmmaking, so the 10 seems fair imo. Music? Well, they have some rock n roll bands worth listening, I'm not considering shit like Justine Beaver or Serena Perez, that kind of plastic cunts, I'm talking Velvet Underground, White Stripes, BRMC, Black Keys, Dead Kennedys, etc. American architecture? The fuck do I know about it, it was just a random guess.

Film to me feels like a really young medium. I think we've only scratched the surface of what it can do. But so far the greats are almost all American.

You can tell because any time we want something that is beautiful we bring in an architect from Europe like Calatrava. We consider Thomas Jefferson one of our greats of architecture lol.
