he wants it to be a research paper about the relationship between kant's political and ethical philosophy. its definitely about that and i include the required number of sources and several references to perpetual peace and the groundwork but im afraid that coming up with my own thesis that i didnt see in the literature was too brash and missed the point a bit. my viewpoint doesnt disagree with any literature and i answer some potential refutations in the literature

>>11081623
fair enough. The fact that coming "up with your own answer" is a risk speaks volumes about the brainlets that pass through any given philosophy department. Just make sure your paper isn't dogshit and you're not coming off as arrogant and your should be fine desu

thanks. this is something i noticed when seeing what other students were writing their papers on, as it was mostly descriptive and stuck to the basic facts. i took a risk but i highly value original thought
>>11081703
theres no sources that answer the question i want to answer. there are sources about similar questions and the intricacies of the the ethical and political theory that i was able to apply to my paper, although it was mostly just based off the source text. ill post a summary of the question and my thesis in 2 or 3 hours when i print the damn thing so i dont receive unfair help, assuming i havent become an hero, and you can roast me then

Srsly, this. I just finished my BA in Philosophy in 2017 and I don't remember seeing any such guideline. Granted, your original answer has probably been given in some form or another by someone else you haven't heard of.

>junior level philosophy course
>exam with two questions, one about Berkley and perceivable objects, the other about Hume and the necessary connection
>Blew the fuck out of Berkley
>challenge Hume by adopting Kant's position on causality (even though kant wasn't on the module syllabus)
>finished with 20 mins to spare
>mfw I get 84/100

All philosophy papers in your first year are a piece of piss anon. If you have even a modicum of ingenuity (or are able to invoke the arguments of other thinkers in order to reinforce your critique), you'll have no trouble getting a decent grade. What worked for me is just rewriting the basic propositions over and over until I had boiled down a particular argument into its most essential components, and could then use its weak points to pick apart the whole.

I agree but i didnt see it anywhere. I wanted to figure out how i, as a member of a republic who votes, can advocate for my country's wellbeing even if it comes at the expense of others. In general you kant, but in some situations i think you can ethically

Stop going to shitty universities then, my university explicitly rewards students who think for themselves

Well we'll see how its graded. I could get penalized, he couldve got the guideline from someone else or only mesnt it to make life easier on students, or i could have just done a shitty job regardless.
