I have trouble comprehending any piece of text I read. I just helped my sister do an aptitude verbal reasoning test and it seemed really fucking difficult. I barely remember whatever I read and I struggle to really understand what the fuck is going on. I’m currently reading 1984 at the moment. First book I’m voluntarily reading after high school which was three years ago.

the prevalence of half-wit siblings and parents who do not realize that lying about one’s capacity to assist in academic work will only lead to resentment is eternally bewildering to me

what are you interested in anon?

just read that. don't worry about what you should read or not read, what everyone else around you is hyping on /lit/ or wherever.

if you're interested in dystopian or orwellian stuff, there's tons of that. there's philosophy stuff to read about that also if you're interested.

nobody's gud at reading, ultimately. you just pay attention to the questions that matter to you and eventually things kinda-sorta make sense. but even the guys who dedicate their whole lives to reading texts wind up being the scissors to one guy's paper and another guy's rock.

it doesn't really matter where you begin, just keep looking. eventually things start to click.

i read somewhere that some higher-level mathematician said that to him the universe wasn't ultimately a thing that all made sense, you just kind of got used to it. i liked that idea.

anyways glhf

What? Are you projecting anything? Your post seems unrelated to OP... Please explain further

Reading is a skill like everything else and
you need to train it. Just read more and try to be more active when you read (e.g. ask yourself questions about what you're reading). Setting goals can also be helpful. One step at time, you can do it ;)

I know I shouldn’t have helped her but she really wants that job and her reading comprehension is worse than mine.

I suppose I’m pretty early in my reading journey, given that 1984 is the first book I’m reading outside of education. I will stick with it.
