I liked it quite a lot. The book serves as a good intro to some aspects of literary theory re: fiction, but I don't think that's why one should read it. The book is worthy for certain of its insights into specific literary works. One of my favorites was Wood's discussion of how the audience of any given work (and the main character's relationship to that audience) evolves from the Old Testament (story of King David), through Shakespeare (Macbeth) to Dostoevsky (C&P). The book is also marked by its exquisite style, so worth trying.
