Aristophanes has my favorite Eulogy about love in the Symposium. The absurd parts are obviously absurd, but everything else he says I find to be very interesting.

I'm very disgruntled that the kids I live with decided to throw another party this weekend without giving me a heads up. I've got two tests to take and homework to do (online classes). I'm holed up in my room like some NEET autist while there's a party going on because I have to play school. Feels bad, man.

>> No.11001168

I still hate my job and want to quit. I miss having the motivation to be creative like I did when I was younger and more recently when I was a NEET. I'd do things that I enjoyed and didn't feel like I wasted ten years of my life at all. Sure, I wasn't productive in the normal sense that capitalism forces us to be for puppet masters but I did enjoy my time. Didn't need a lot of money and still don't, really.

Got paid my slave wages and instead of investing it normally I invested it in myself. Bought some hobby stuff that I honestly probably won't even have the motivation to do anything with until my "weekend" which is just Wednesday and Thursday because I work at a shitty mall doing the same thing every single day so people can fuck it up again not even twelve hours later on a shift I absolutely hate away from the things I actually like. If it weren't for my good colleagues I would have quit already.

I want to be creative again. I want to enjoy my time instead of dreading when I have to go to work again and sleeping all of it away because I don't even want to get out of bed. I understand how people get trapped and never "better" themselves. It's designed that way. It's designed to fuck us over so we don't do anything but work and vegetate.

>> No.11001359

I am bothered by the state of the world these last few years. I really did not think people could become much more dumber. Of course it's no surprise that it's the Americans that are spewing so much of this stupidity but the obvious rampant propaganda that people eat up is sickening. This world become more dystopian in so many ways every year.

I also hate the new acronyms and buzz words that have been spawned. "Fake news." Fuck. You. It's propaganda in its purest form. Why does blatant propaganda need a new term? And POTUS. Oh my god. I genuinely become angry when people say POTUS to refer to the president. Just call him the fucking president you neanderthal. Anyway, I just am pretty fed up with hearing about all the shit going on.

Nobody fucking reads poetry any more and this makes me angry. I'm not angry at the public, I'm angry at academia and the literary establishment for cordoning poetry off into this faggy little club that nobody is a member of but them. Ask yourself: can you name five contemporary poets? Of course not.

It wasn't always this way. Byron was a fucking bestseller. People used to read Homer for fun. And people still like the old poets. There are recordings of actors reading Keats on YouTube that have six-figure views. Poetry COULD be popular like it used to be, but it isn't, and I hate that. It has to change.

Second, Nietzsche wouldn't want you to take him this seriously, especially in regards to "arguments". Bleah. There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophy. The truth is that weapons of war do not run themselves, at least not yet. For each bombing that takes place in some dusty desert, there are a million happy people eating hamburgers who support it with their thoughts, their hopes, their dreams, and their finances. Each of us is flying a drone, or at least we own part of one by proxy.

Buy nothing from those in the military. Buy nothing from those who support the military. Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s. But nothing more.

We just need to consider what we are putting our priorities on. Let us keep our taxable incomes small and endorse candidates who want to reduce military spending.

As Christians, let us not vote in anyone into office who supports war. We will have police, we will keep the police, but we will not have an army. If you believe that there are messages to be drawn from the Bible, do you not think this is one of them?

(Sidenote: You men who kill, are you so sure you are doing the right thing? No one is forcing you to drop the bomb).

We need to stop supporting candidates that what to wage so much war. We need to stop supporting candidates who want to drop bigger bombs. We need to all start supporting candidates that do things like support common sense, decency, and striving to end suffering by doing it personally in their lives and in their job.

The truth is we are all voting, all the time, with our wallets and our time. Support companies that openly contribute to certain candidates. Avoid ones that donate primarily to organizations you oppose.

If your friend works for one of the entities and systems that are evil , do not shun them. They just want money. But don't buy their products. And don't respond to their demands that you buy them, when they inevtiably come. Stay a friend.

Let us strive for an ideal and hope others follow. We do not need to start with a majority.

Yesterdat my cousin called to ask about our family. We speak two different languages and niether of us knows more than a couple of words of each other's tongue.
I thought of passing the phone to my parents as I usually do bu he wanted to talk with me.
It was painfully hard to spit out that few words I know of the language but I could understand well enough.
He would actually make fun of me in a loving kind of way bu I could only laugh as an answer .
Than he said something like:
"You see Anon, we don't really have many occasions to talk, you don't have any social media and the languge barrier is an obstacle.
I want to make one thing clear... We love you, you know . Don't think that we care less about you because we don't speak much, we're always here. Understood shithead ?"

"Yeah... I know. Love you too."

"Good, my greetings to [family members]. "

Eventually she breaks up with him, but only after going on a date with a new guy the day before she breaks up with her now ex, and again the day after. All the while telling me the day of that she just doesnt want to cause her ex pain.

Now all my coworkers are causing drama just because I dont want to talk to her anymore. I wonder if Im the one being dramatic, but she just repulses me and I dont want to chit chat with someone like that.

Every day I think of the burden. Every hour. Even in the best moments, when I am momentarily caught up in some fantasy, it is still there, in the corner of my mind. When I'm outside, it's all I can see. Most people do not know it exists, and of those that do, even fewer believe in it. With this curse, the past and future do not exist. There is no true desire, yet no true suffering. Months fly by. Sex is pointless. Beauty is pointless.

Does all that sound like metaphor? It's not. Not really. This is what life is like without emotions. I remember how all those things made me feel. My life felt important. Music felt important. Girls were pretty, and I liked looking at them. To have it all and lose it is like moving one step down the evolutionary ladder. I am trying all that I can, but I do not know if I will ever return to normal. If I do, it will be like a constant drug trip at all times. To live in a world where pleasure is constant and immediate, where falling face down on a bed after school feels divine - that might make me believe in god. But there is no way of knowing. It is all in the air, and like always, all I can do is keep waiting.

How can something exist and be deemed "unnatural"? Simply because it did not occurr in it's found state? This phone now that I hold in my hand; metal, alloy, and electricity. All components found in nature, and for all is found in nature, nothing can ever truly be deemed unnatural. Skycrapers are nothing more than intricate anthills, with steel supplanted for soil. Just as this can be considered, it is important to note, there are no limits to what reality may hold. There is nothing wrong with being realistic, so long as one understands that, this does not simply mean what is real now, but what may and could possibly be. Far too often, we underestimate what reality holds.

It pains me to think and feel this, as I do generally try to be an unpretentious person, but I just feel so disconected from most people, from their way of thinking, especially women, so I can't help it. I lack the cunning to adapt to this and to pretend that things are otherwise.
Despite all the development that humanity has managed to go through, everything is still so animal, so strange. I feel that I've come to conclusions about what I feel is important, beautiful and true that have no place in anyone else's consideration.

For example, for something that relates to the romantic relationship issue which is particularly bothering me this afternoon, that sex is a profoundly beautiful and sacred act, perhaps the only truly sacred act there is. Because of this, it's a deeply personal thing that should only be had with someone you truly love and trust.
I know it sounds vanilla as fuck, but I know literally no one who thinks like this. Everyone looks at it as something dirty and shameful, or as a power exchange ritual, especially in the case of men, or as a selfish act of self affirmation, in the case of women. This leads people to approach romantic affairs in such wasteful, stupid and disgusting ways, and to address them in such crass and vulgar terms, and this fills me with such sadness and loneliness that I just want to chop my cock and balls off and become a monk.
This is just one of them, it can go right down to: "flowers are beautiful", which I actually feel, and then everyone thinks I'm some kind of faggot. It's all so alienating.

I still don't see how this caused the unpopularity of poetry though, and besides, poetry will always be popular in the form of lyrical music, where it bears more resemblance to traditional forms (like a rhyme scheme chosen for ease of memory) than anything that anon's vision of academic elitism has produced.

Poetry has always flourished when and where literacy has failed, being a phenomenon of oral history and tradition, and culture will always be either passed or preserved in some form.

If you look at it like a prison where we can only feel pain, you lack the insight as to why you were placed in said prison; reform.
A rabbit may think his life is suffering because his main purpose is to be eaten by the wolf, just as a wolf will think he is suffering to be made into human's clothes.
When a man can see himself in the grand scheme of things, dwelling on "suffering" and "reward" becomes nothing more than the realization that all is relative. Take your pain and joy in order to create and survive.

The value is being single is something she will have to learn for herself. You have every reason to want to explain to her why it is important, but as I said; an opinion may be valid even if everyone chooses not to embrace it.
It sounds to me your intentions as a friend are wholesome and if I were you I would want to see my friend loosen herself from the shackles of insecurity, anxiety, and lack of self-discipline that has caused this mess to begin with more than give up because she has failed yet again.
Being single is a vital way to begin to lose those qualities but she may feel that only a bf can save her. Her friend should be there for her thick and thin as these boys use her and she gets hurt more and more, not to justify her actions but put them into perspective.

Stop trying to be "wise" because you're seeking vanity, not wisdom. What you should orient yourself toward is humility, and admit that you do not know shit. How do you approach reading, by trying to read as much to check off some list? Focus more on reading well and not being well read. Stop seeking that external validation. Try reading some philosophy that speaks to your situation, or books that appeal to you, and worry less about what people expect you to say or think.

On the topic of sexual sanctity: have you ever noticed how you can infer quite a bit about a person's sexuality and sexual preferences just by their personality? There's this girl. We've grown pretty close, and we're both each other's types, but we both have significant others so nothing will ever happen. But things that she's relayed to
me—her sexual conservatism, her assertiveness masking her fears of interpersonal reliance, the fact that her boyfriend is almost 'too nice' for her—have given me a fairly solid idea of her sexual preferences.

I imagine this is because the two are reflective of each other. In other words, they are functions of each other. One's sexual persona is necessarily weaved into their public persona—two sides of the same coin. Interpreting it as such almost destroys the notion of sex as an exclusively private act, given that one's private persona is shaped by their public interactions and vice versa.

Our sexual personas are shaped by our public interactions. Any barrier of taboo we erect are facades of willful ignorance and nothing more.

Willful ignorance of what, exactly? That people seek sexual satisfaction and that they behave socially in a way that increases the likelihood that they'll find it, social interactions being the sole vehicle through which this is possible?
I don't think that anyone denies that, which doesn't really change the nature of the sexual act itself. What some people might have a problem with, me included, is the fact that people are becoming estranged from the idea of sex as an act of love and approaching it instead as something evil, dirty or vengeful, thereby making this immense area of human experience a worse one, for them and for others.

My musing wasn't in direct reply to your musings. It was on the topic of sex and sexual philosophy but it wasn't challenging your views. Apologies if it came off that way.

When I say 'willful ignorance' I mean that as individuals who value the arguably illusory demarcation of private lives and public lives exist willfully ignorant of the fact that, in general, we can infer more about a platonic partner's private sexuality than we would care to admit. Because how useful would it be to acknowledge our friends' sexual preferences? Not very.

However, to tie our points together, I would argue that my interpretation it does change the nature of the sexual act itself—however marginal a change it is. To clarify, I think it may even bolster the notion that sex should not be considered, "evil, dirty or vengeful," but I feel by arguing this I'd be broaching elements of nihilism—à la, "nothing is wrong so long as it's harmful pleasure," etc.—and that's a far cry from classifying sex as exclusively an act of love.

the situation is there are strict family units and then not. Husband and wife, traditionally and otherwise tend to not be to extreme sexually, because they have kids to raise. And they dont want their kids to be crazy sexually, because they want them to get married and raise kids. Kids are the ultimate responsibility. People who in the moment dont think about their future of marriage or kid rearing, or are however certain they will not want to do either, or especially the latter, open a possible door of exploring sexuality a bit more: open marriages, polyamorous, cucks, swingers, a lifetime of 40 girlfriends, prostitutes, adventurous porn

How significant do you think sex and sexuality is in relation to all other things and aspects of life? How significant to you? How significant to the average person? The percentages of upper and lower bounds? Do the normal people I mentioned, do they broadcast their sexuality socially as you mentioned? What did you or that person mean by the perception of sex being evil, dirty, vengeful?

I dont think sex as a overarching worldly topic is that interesting, but I can understand its popularity and prevalence, and do think there is something strong and powerfully beautiful and special about being close with another human, especially speaking as someone who has gone very long without an embrace of any kind, the thought of a naked hug I can imagine the feeling of love and comfort, and that is the essence of it, that connection, humans being as close as possible, out of all the things and space in the world, it is the very bodies, the very minds, forgetting all else, to entwine and mutually celebrate one another.

I just can't wait to strike my own path in life, even if I end up poor or dead.

It's easy. Walk it off. You're a fucking human, you're built to walk. Walk somewhere for eight hours and see how you feel. Then do that every day for a couple months moving from place to place. You'll not only be cured, but you'll also appreciate your intellect more. So yeah, walk it off.

As post-modernism does it’s slow painful death and we see it supposedly getting replaced with all kinds of various moments of sincerity is it worth killing off if that sincerity simply espoused vapid and stupid feelings and claims? I’m starting to understand the need to devalue all dumb opinions and critically pick apart everything ( while secretly knowing what social constructions are worth a fuck and which ones harm me or annoy me ). In the age of isolation and valueless social interactions the need for so called truth and substance is clear ( with maybe the exception of grand narratives , but fucking SOMETHING must give us psychic nourishment ) but with lack of cohesion and the ever compartamentalized groups of people how can we collectively arrive at any notions at all? Or perhaps I’m overstating the value of the internet here .

Ivory towers are comfy.
Seriously, most people are incapable of being rational about politics, so I don't bother anymore. I vote when the time comes then dedicate the rest of my life to things I actually care about.

I'm actually not even sure I'm going to vote in the upcoming election. Both parties have at least one policy that I vehemently disagree with and which I am unwilling to compromise.

I need to make a class schedule for summer and fall semesters tonight and then wake up at 7:50am to register before the system crashes so that I can get loan money to pay the god damn rent for the next year. I need to read for wills and estates tomorrow.

Maybe I can just sleep now, but if I try that I'm just going to lay in bed and do nothing.

My house is a mess. Its a fucking disaster. How did it get this bad? How did I not get any work done this weekend finals are in 15 days. Get your shit together man. I just want to read catch 22. But I don't REALLY want to read that otherwise I'd be reading it now instead of shitposting. I need to start that application for the BAR. I need to register for the MPRE. I need to study for finals. I need to learn how to be a functional human being without a dependency on stimulants and booze. I need to go to the gym again. I bet my gains are gone too, just like her.

God I miss her.

This anon is a naive loser for thinking his crush will see parallels between the book and their relationship, for making those connections himself, and for thinking the book will in any way actually affect her romantic life in any way rather than her just continuing to fuck chads like usual, but also some part of me wants to be proven wrong but I know instead i'll just be called an incel, which in somewhat funny way supports my position while simultaneously insulting me for it

You're learning by expressing. It's not going well.

Political aesthetics are the most important subject and should never be discussed. I wish I had more power and control of media and could do so without being in the public. It's hard to figure out this conundrum, but I've noticed something profound group dynamics that gives me hope.

I only wish I actually cared about something being more right feeling than just caring about something being right. The unexplained, the obscurity of things and systems make me lack any sense of passion.

the internet has been poisoning my thoughts for too long
there is a huge difference between remembering a walk in a park and remembering thousands of hours of clips or images or words you saw on a screen
I've recently become horrified about how much of my memory is full of experiences staring at a screen
I'm done with this

Curious by what you mean by “ learning by expressing”? Look I don’t have a lot of people to flesh out my ideas and feelings with anon. I’m not even sure if I expressed them correctly here. But I am earnestly interested in any critique or insight you might have.

Butchers crossing hit me hard in the feelers because I really feel like it's exactly what I need right now. It's a true shame that there's really no way in current society to go make a massive change in a way that you're truely committed to the experience. Everything is so fast and everywhere is the same that no matter where you go, you'll have the same experience.

The closest thing I can think of for what I feel like I need is wildland fire fighting this summer. I would join the military but then you just end up wrapped within societies problems. Even the national guard is just used as disaster relief or riot culling.

What are your plans anon? I need some ideas.
