Always been interested in her, but have never read much she wrote.

Is there a short essay or two I could check out for a taste?

Her writing saved my life.

On the Abolition of Political Parties is short and would probably give a good taste of her ideas, and theres a pdf of her aphoristic book Gravity & Grace online that you can peruse a chapter or two. First half of the book is her more overtly religious ideas, second half is a bit more practical and political.

Her famous Iliad essay got btfo by bloom

>That sense is of course Hebraic

The entire thing rests on this line. If you grant it Bloom did soundly blow Weil the fuck out. But I don't. It's a weak foundation. Nature as the arbitrary arena of forces is exactly what Weil means by the Illiad being the poem of force, and a spirit that is continued in her interpretation of the Gospels, where Christ stands as the primordial cry of the suffering creature ensnared by Homeric fate.

Care to share anon. Also Gravity and Grace is the best introduction to Weil. She drops bombs every page.

Long story short, she taught me how to see beyond appearances and that the only way to freedom is by living in accordance with the Eternal. Most people think the Stoics are mindblowing in this regard, but Weil is a whole new level of contemplation.

Trotsky thought she was a great debater so that's good enough for me. Her life and ultimate fate will forever remain a mystery, but I like mysticism in general.
