How do I re-train my brain to concentrate for longer periods at a time when reading? I forget how a sentence starts if it goes on to long, I get constantly distracted by my own thoughts. What do?

Disconnect from the internet. Or delete your opperating system and set up a new one that chastises you from computer time wasting
Take a walk in the woods
Definitely stop smoking weed if you are one of the millions of people that can't seem to stop doing that(I have this problem)
Take stimulants.

Most importantly simply redirect your attention every time you drift away, you will eventually get it with significant effort.

don't worry about it
keep reading and it takes care of itself
practice every day
the every day part is the most important, but also take breaks eventually where you dont read at all

this is the answer.

t. been there, done that. Getting an e-reader is what helped me; fooled my brain into thinking books were the internet. Now I read for hours every day.
didn't happen overnight, of course.

You might be on to something here. What if we put all books in imageboard layout?

Read 1 minute a day from a complex book. When it becomes easy, read 2 minutes and so on and so forth.

Read not only academic stuff but enjoyable stuff too, slowly increase your ability to read without getting bored/distracted. Have clear wants when it comes to reading too (why are you reading, what do you want to learn about etc.) and also I find talking about reading can make me more motivated to read more.

Remember that Arthur episode where Buster admits he's never finished a single book, but it turns out he just never found a book that interested him enough, and he reads Robin Hood even faster than Arthur could?
Yeah
