I would like to know the most haunting book you have read. Not necessarily the scariest, more of a lingering kind of creepy

I've never felt comfortable with The Judge from Blood Meridian, nor did I feel at ease when Sutter and Breece were on page in William Gay's Twilight. Not much in literature has left me creeped out in the sense of character. Regarding tone, though, I remember House of Leaves being really fucking unnerving, especially in the sections in which you have to translate the letters and in which the film crew are descending further and further into the infinite halls.

Utopia, Thomas Moore
Was required reading in highschool and I was immediately disturbed throughout and after reading it. Tried to figure out why, but the other student's didn't care and my teacher didn't understand what I was trying to say.
Just really put me off. I think the feeling of the death of the individual and the casual nature in which it was discussed might've been what really creeped me out.

I felt physical revulsion at the passage in IJ when a speaker at AA is recounting when their father used to rape her mentally disabled sister while she was in the same room, feigning sleep. When she got to the part of how she'd remove the mask her father would put on her sister and she saw the expression of pure, vacuous bliss on her face...I don't know, I just broke out in a cold sweat and felt nauseous.

Jesus Christ. I had forgotten about this. Makes me really question the motivations of reviewers when they described the book as hilarious. There are so many dark passage that just squeeze and break the heart. Fuck, anon.
