Recently I have become interested in the Napoleonic war. What are the best books dealing with the topic, fiction and non-fiction. Are there any non-fiction that deals with the subject in real time like Carlyle's account of the french revolution?

There were more than one you tête carrée REEEEE

With that said i really loved "In Nelson's Wake" by James Davey, "The French Revolution" by Ian Davidson, and "For God and Kaiser" by Richard Bassett. These are about subjects during the era not always about Nopoleon or his battles.

Literally /thread. This book is all you need about Napoleon pretty much. GOAT biography. Read it 3 times. The guy is was like a real life superhero.
Although reading it is kind of depressing. It makes you realize "What the fuck am I doing with my life?"

Don't blame yourself completely. Although I am a massive fan of Napoleon and think him to be one of the greats, you can't help but think he was no doubt helped by the times he lived in. I mean he arrived in France penniless (after going to Corsica for the last time iirc) and 6 years later, he was first consul. A good part of this was due to the revolution which afforded him opportunities not possible beforehand to a man of very minor nobility. It's not just Napoleon either, much of his marshals and other prominent figures of the time had similar stories. Oh well, perhaps such a situation may arise in our lifetimes.

How so? If you study history you can understand that your statement is completely false. Militarily speaking, we will probably never see anything like Napoleon ever again, at least in the near future. Hitler tried to larp as him but failed miserably. There are more opportunities now to become rich and lead a comfortable life sure, but not to go on such glorious endeavors as him and his men did.

That was already there. Besides he pretty much treated most of his European enemies quite well.
>free the jews
they were already free.
>create permanent precedent for enlightened despotism
as opposed to the rest of the monarchies in europe who had terrible rulers anyways?
>lead to Hitler and Stalin
>lead to Putler and EU

Andrew Robert’s Napoleon the Great (sometimes also titled Napoleon, a life) is absolutely fantastic.

Though he does glorify the meat grinder that was the napoleonic wars.
