Redpill me on Kierkegaard. Is he worth reading/best books? What will I get from him? Why do people hate him?

>Is he worth reading
Yes.
>best books?
Fear and Trembling and The Sickness Unto Death are both fantastic, can't speak for Either/Or yet.
>What will I get from him?
Christian existentialism. A departure from the rational idealism of Hegel in favor of faith. Intense focus on the individual and his relation with himself and God. An extremely personal philosophy, with constant autobiographical references to his relationship with Regine.
>Why do people hate him?
Only fedorafriends and dishonest journalists hate him.

Either/Or is great, it's written pretty strangely but Kierkegaard is always a really personal and emotional writer. I'd say it's a fairly easy read but (like any philosopher) it's important to understand the social and philosophical context to his writing to get what he was going for.

His non-pseudonymous stuff is pretty good, too, if you're a Christian. I'm reading Works of Love right now and it's very good at giving new insight into phrases I thought I'd fully explored. He spends three chapters on "Thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself" alone.

I've read a few of those works as well- For Self-Examination and Judge For Yourselves- and really enjoyed them (I am Christian). We don't deserve him.
