I haven't read a novel in 3 or so years, I exclusively read philosophy, history and skim through a bunch secondary literature without finishing it. Danganronpa is a good meme, but a terrible piece of fiction. It succeeds as a 'fun ride' solely based on aesthetics and rule of cool.
In comparison, Phoenix Wright did a far better job of establishing a setting, weaving a narrative and developing its most important characters over the course of just a couple hours, and of course there's also Higurashi, which had surprisingly complex characters hidden behind its silly slice of life anime cliches juxtaposed against horror, mystery and crime, which just worked insanely well.

I fucking love video games, and I hate it
Even talking or hearing about them makes my heart feel lighter because I can SEE the potential in it. It’s the most immersive medium and puts you in the whole experience, which no other medium can. However, only indie developers understand that it’s an art and not a product, but companies just ruin it.
It’s also generally a big waste of time in the grand scheme of things as you learn nothing from the experience, but fuck I just love it. It’s like reading sci-fi/fantasy genre feel good garbage but when there comes a good game a fall madly in love with it. I don’t care about a relationship or making 6 figures, I want to make an epic of a game. Something to rival that of the Iliad and odyssey yet also have the beautiful prose of moby dick and Ulysses.
But this dream is of the pipe variant, as I have to become successful for not me but my family. My family is full of headstrong go getters who instead of smelling the roses would pick them and sell them for some sort of money scheme. They are the most successful out of everyone in their family and both of my sisters are doctors. If I don’t end up as an equally profession like investment banking or something I’ll be a shame, a blight, a black sheep. I’ll be the failure, which I already feel the brand hovering over me

>> No.10815472

>>10815387
You'll only be a failure if you make a shitty game, just like a banker can be a failed banker if they fail to bank. Do you think there is more or less work involved in banking than making a game? Do you think it's easier or harder to fail? Do you think a banker could talk himself out of being a successful banker by focusing on failures he hasn't even accomplished yet?

You can put in 10000 hours and still not improve if you keep making the same mistakes over and over again like a retard. Continue to analyze your plays, look for alternative strategies, try out different items and game modes. Look at the game from all possible angles and extract a deeper understanding of its underlying principles.

Original work. Last books I read last week are An Unlocked Mind and Before You Break by KC Wells, those are the first 2 books of their new series. Before that it was the Jonnies series of Amy Lane. Interspersed with some more novels, like Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge. I've been slowing down lately but thinking about I still easily read more than a dozen novels since january. I'm midway half a dozen others too.

I don't know how this started. I just started reading a gay novel one day and I liked it so I read another one and now we're 3 years later and I've read hundreds of them. They're comfy and often very simple but still quite risqué. I'm well aware 99% of them aren't high literature but that doesn't stop me from devouring everything gay novel, genres be damned.

the implication is that you aren't cognizant of subtle differences between adults and children, a 15 or 16 year old is basically a child. a 21 year old is not. That you are attracted to HS underclassmen is a sign of pedophilic, I'm aware of the specific term ephebophilia but fuck your creepy semantics, inclinations. I am not attracted to the personas of 16 year olds, if they are exceptionally over developed for their age due to early pubescence I might have the slightest tendency towards them but I'm capable of completely negating and cancelling this out with my natural disgust at underdeveloped humans. You as an adult should have a nature disease and disgust towards teenagers that would preclude you from having sex with them. If you can't muster this within yourself, a natural and healthy segregation of desires, then you are unmastered and likely err towards degenerate pedophilic sexual proclivities if there were no punishments awaiting you and no social pressure to stop being this way I think you'd be worse than just thinking they were cute. This kind of logical extension of proclivity into propensity and finally predisposition as character is a worthy ethical heuristic, one that has never failed me.

They got me into reading and no book has ever just made me lose myself in them like they have, no themes or fancy prose or anything like that, just stories that completely engrossed me as a kid, it wasnt even written by one person it was a group of people under a pen name too.

Idc I still love the characters and everything.

Its kind of shit since I have never been able to find any books that could match it, even a decade later, to the point where I mostly just read none fiction if anything.

i suppose there are two reasons: firstly all things interest me and relate to me as I am a piece of all things. second, I like to know why people do the sexual and social things they do especially one's that others find disturbing and lusting after minors has disturbed many for a long time
>f the was porn of the yotsuba girl I wouldn't give a shit because she FAKE. Jerk off to whatever you want

>For starters, many girls reach their prime at 16
techno-capitalist societies have a scientifically documented uptrend in the age of pubescence this does not mean that the development of the CNS is keeping pace with it though as the neotenous behavior of the youth indicates it most certainly isn't. also what percentage of girls and what do you mean by prime? do you mean attractiveness, do you mean fertility? do you mean likelihood to carry pregnancy to term? do you mean adulthood as biologically defined?
>and it's only natural to desire them
logical fallacy, its also natural to want to kill people with different values than you. you have different values than me yet you dispute the validity of my wanting to kill you for being a pedo
>I don't think they are neccesarily immature in anything but experience
experience is not all, they also lack fully developed wombs, hips, brains, cognition etc which is a product of biological development, humans are not just input-output machines they are growing and learning implicitly even without doing anything
>I suppose you are also against milfs soliciting young men for intimate relationships?
if the man was 22 then no, he's an adult basically though immature and its a bit distasteful, I would say socially yes but I wouldn't punish her for it explicitly like I would if she fucked a 16 year old. Anyone younger than 25 is not really a full adult.
>I was solicited by a milf at 16
that's called predation
>and men reach their physical potential years after their female counterparts
men are also cognitively more advanced than women but this is all irrelevant i would still say this is wrong and perverse and predatory, i feel disgusted by it
>lso, because I am still young, the age difference means nothing to me
what you feel doesn't matter, its what you can argue for cogently that holds weight
>i want to have sex with pretty
yes, there are 19 year olds and 20 year olds, if you are actually of value you would be able to bed them. i've noticed lower value males feed off of pools of dumb 16 year olds in their late teens and early 20's in lieu of being fit enough to mate with women their age why is that?

Wow. Are you unironically this retarded or are you just bored?

Everyone likes young people because they're most likely healthy and look better than old cunts. Teenagers might not be completely mentally developed, but they're aware enough to know what is what. Our mental abilities peak around 18-25, so don't pull the undeveloped meme again. Reproductive organs function normally when we hit puberty... You know you were supposed to learn this in high school?

>logical fallacy, its also natural to want to kill people with different values than you
No it's not natural. It's just how you feel. Try finding which fallacies you've just made in this post. I assure you there are a lot of them.

>what you feel doesn't matter, its what you can argue for cogently that holds weight
Yet everything you've said so far is based on feelings.

I just wanted to point out that the post that started all of this discussion stated that an anime character was cute for reading genre fiction at sixteen. Not sexy. Cute. Anyone who automatically interprets calling either a grade or high schooler cute for reading a book as having sexual connotations is highly likely to be psychologically projecting their own insecurities onto the speaker, assuming I correctly understand the concept. But I'm not a psychologist, so I will speculate no further. I also understand that language is not an absolute: I did not believe 'cute' carried sexual implications in this content, but apparently someone else did. All of this is a moot point, however, given that the girl being discussed in this context is fictional. I don't believe that anon ever explained how a person who is clearly not real is capable of being abused, I admit that I did not read all of his posts.

I have a genuine and seething hatred for most of the people on this board. Even the people that I end up having a civil conversation with make my skin crawl purely because of the smugness that radiates off almost any comment made on /lit/. It once flashed across to mind to maybe try and attend a meetup but I got so upset by the thought of speaking to a handful of you in person that I seriously had to lie down for a while just to ease my nerves.

I browse this place as a bad habit and because of a lack of regular social contact, but if I could move on from this shit board then I would seriously rather speak to my fucking bus driver than any of you useless cunts. If someone I meet in real life ever professes an interest in literature then I immediately stop taking them seriously and can be certain that I will never enjoy their company. The idea of enjoying literary conversation is more and more repulsive to me by the day, and as a pastime it just seems to bring out the worst kind of posturing in people, with this board demonstrating everyday the lows such a thing can achieve.

Some of the poets in the critique threads are pretty pleasant, though.

Got to start somewhere, mate. As long as you enjoy what you read and you read at a comfortable pace then you're doing fine. Gradually the further you get into a book/the more interesting the book gets for you then you're more likely going to read and focus more than you would normally.

Try reading to an easy but set target in your free time. Maybe between 5 to 20 pages? At least you make progress. If you're easily distracted then try turning your internet off for an hour or so. I do this from time to time when I work and it helps me focus more.

> 15 or 16 year old is basically a child
Sure, if you're 50+. When I was 16, I recall being 10 years older than a child. Somehow that has changed? I think not.

> a 21 year old is not
You haven't lived very long or don't have much worldly experience if you think age makes a difference. Age is a generalized notion with regard to maturity, and only means something in large numbers. Individually, age is not often representative of maturity or cognitive development to the degree you expect. Sure, in the course of a single individual's lifetime, they're less developed at 16 than 21, but that's assuming they actually develop themselves in the first place. Beyond which, I've met 70yo men who are less developed than many of the 8yo's I've met -- and that's without any diseases or handicaps. Does this mean that a 70yo can fuck a <8yo? Hell fucking no.

Attraction means nothing if you don't act on it. I'm attracted to milfs and short women, as well as 2D images of shota and loli. Do I want to fuck all mothers? No. Will I act on that? Hell no. Am I going to start chasing children down waving my arms and foaming at the mouth when they get off a schoolbus because I like shota and loli? Fuck no, that's retarded. Does being partial toward shota and loli images magically possess my dick when I'm teaching, or around children in private? No. My dick doesn't go all super-expansion futa-parody. It's more flaccid then than when I see old people fucking, and traps. Your moral repulsion and indignant disgust are fine for you, protest all you want as loud as you want. I'm not dumb enough to think anything that applies to me, personally, applies to everyone else.

As an adult, male or woman, there should always be a fondness for and intimacy with children. The west is retarded and thinks those things include connotations of "sex." Adults who appreciate the opposite sex when they're in their prime are biologically and psychologically healthy. Men tend to appreciate 15-22yo women, women tend to appreciate 25-40yo men. This is not a rule, and changes drastically depending on culture, values, and personal tastes.

That's a symptom of being too distracted and not writing enough to begin with. Force yourself to do it every day and it'll only get easier each following day. After a while NOT writing is what will make you feel odd.

Good luck with that, get accustomed to 2.5k a day if you're good, and maybe 5k if you spend the whole day doing it non-stop, unless you're writing complete bullshit with very little thought in it.

Higurashi is a weird one, because it pretends to be generic animeshit, introducing its characters as your usual 2d moeblobs with a couple of endearing personality quirks, and then using that facade as a cover to create the contrast between club activities and the tranquil village everyday on one hand and the mysterious and downright brutal hidden world which shines through it on the other. The characters are also presented in this dualistic way, with demon eyes as a visual cue. It is unclear whether in such scenes we are still dealing with the same character, whether this is their true personality, whether they are being possessed by the god the villages worship, or whether our vp character is merely going crazy.
In that way it creates and upholds thematic tension and introduces a kind of lovecraftian unknown into the narrative equation, a sense of horrified incomprehension and fear of what may be lurking beyond the paper thin veil of slice of life bullshit. And then, it actually manages to develop its main cast into well-written characters that transcend their anime aesthetic in terms of believably and depth, and rather than devolving into stupidity by choosing one of the many easy but meaningless solutions to the mysteries it has presented it uses its concluding chapters to bring home its core themes, divinity the demonic, sin and forgiveness, miracles and necessity.

this. it's funny that people don't realize this, even though they acknowledge that they forgot 99% of what they learned in school. The brain is really good at making you think that you have far better memory retention than you really do.

Just focus on thinking about what you're reading, instead of trying to 'retain' it - you won't be able to improve your ability to remember, but you can improve the way you process the information you encounter. Build your own thoughts alongside the text, and use that process as a crutch for remembering what it was about, and solve problems you encounter later on.
