cheesy loves scenes that take up too much of the book
The main female, I forget her name, is a boring and shallow character. There's nothing to her. Hemingway could have done better, Brett Ashley for example was well written.

The only good thing I can say about the Italian retreat and escape to Switzerland was done well.
