Why is Max Stirner so much popular on 4Chan?

Memeable.
Easy to not read/understand him.
Easy to read/understand him.
Only need to read 1 short book.
Cool pics.
Hollow sense of smug superiority.
Spoogs.

You can disregard all arguments from your opponent with one word: spooks.

In general, to quote SEP, "In the 1960s and early 1970s, Stirner was rediscovered as a forerunner of existentialism, whose anti-essentialist concept of the self as a ‘creative nothing’ had affinities with the notion of human nature employed by Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980). More recently, Stirner has been identified as a nascent poststructuralist (linked not least with Gilles Deleuze (1925-1995)), rejecting the idea of a universal human nature, employing a genealogical critique of humanist discourses of power and identity, and opposing various forms of state-centric thought. It would be a mistake to deny that these parallels can be plausible and interesting. However, they might well seem to reflect changing historical enthusiasms as much as they accurately capture aspects of Stirner's philosophical and political thought."

He also was an adversary to Marx and Marx's criticism of Stirner forced him to reconsider/elaborate on some of his arguments. His book also caused a stir in Left-wing Hegelians too.

Why does 4chan like him? For edginess and for the sake of being contrarian I'd guess.

He was popular sure but over the past few months or so he kindo' disappeared. Has his proselyte been busy in other spheres?

You get to shit on almost everyone else's ideas of value really easily. Also, many people on this website are naturally egoists

>> No.10770069

“Whoever will be free must make himself free. Freedom is no fairy gift to fall into a man's lap. What is freedom? To have the will to be responsible for one's self.”

“Where the world comes in my way - and it comes in my way everywhere - I consume it to quiet the hunger of my egoism. For me you are nothing but - my food, even as I too am fed upon and turned to use by you. We have only one relation to each other, that of usableness, of utility, of use. We owe each other nothing, for what I seem to owe you I owe at most to myself. If I show you a cheery air in order to cheer you likewise, then your cheeriness is of consequence to me, and my air serves my wish; to a thousand others, whom I do not aim to cheer, I do not show it.”

“All things are Nothing to Me”

“For only he who is alive is in the right.”

"The divine is God's concern; the human, man's. My concern is neither the divine nor the human, not the true, good, just, free, etc., but solely what is 'mine,' and it is not a general one, but is - 'unique,' as I am unique. Nothing is more to me than myself!"

This is why

I think most points have already been elaborated upon here, but I want to say again that his spook concept is 100% made for shitposting.
It takes zero effort and completely destroys every basis for arguing against it.
Also there is only one book which is filled with too much random nonsense already so it is quite easy to get the gist of it without actually reading it.

I really enjoy it. Its perfect for the current meme-age.

Because he's edgy and the drawings of him by Engels look cool.
