I'm 18 and just recently started getting into literature. I had read a few books but nothing meaningful but now, whenever I try to read something I end up getting distracted, lacking motivation/endurance or simply having to read the same passage 2/3/4... Times until I finally understand it.

It it normal? Will it get better or am I just profundly dumb?

Here is what you do:

1. Find a quiet place
2. Take your phone, turn it off, and place it out of your line of sight and out of arms reach.
3. If you are doing this at home, turn off all electronics.
4. Read

Do this for a defined amount of time and you'll be able to pay attention much better. The internet has taken a toll on everyone, people who say otherwise are liars.

Yes, you're a brainlet. But you can train yourself to become better. Keep reading, even when the works you're tackling seem boring. And treat yourself every other book, have some scifi or pop lit to wash out the palette. Perseverance will pay off.

t. started with the Vonnegut as a teenager and the Greeks ten years ago

Will that work if instead I just turn the WiFi off? I read on my phone
(Can't afford buying the books I want to read because I'm not from the US and hate reading translated. Originals are both expensive and hard to find so I just download PDFs)
