>be in late teens
>be passionate about literature and philosophy and self-improvement through art
>demand sincere engagement, criticism, and play from myself and others
>read as much and as varied as possible
>consume, share, and create literature every day
>major in comparative literature and classical poetry
>learn Greek, Latin, and Japanese
>feel that the best in life is digesting what has been written and then contributing to the palimpsest of literary achievements
>leave university
>get job teaching
>gradually become disillusioned with the world
>find literature tedious instead of worthwhile
>experience frustration instead of fulfillment
>realize the authors I admired were shallow interpreters of those who came before
>realize those who came before were fools sublimating their silly beliefs into silly texts
>realize all I ever cared about was style and novelty
>can no longer take sincerity seriously
>can no longer appreciate appreciation
>can no longer suspend my disbelief in the septic tanks of literary worlds
>start drinking
>a lot
>start writing
>recognize that I've become what I resent
>revisit works I loved when I was younger
>see through their shallow conceits and affectations and trite turns of phrase
>keep trying to dive back into the pool
>stuck on top of the diving tower looking down at an assemblage of anxiety and swirls of shit

tl;dr: /lit/, how do I go about becoming impassioned again? What do you recommend to rekindle that burn? How does it feel to be invested?

"If you are among those who are kneeling in the half circle, close your eyes in the darkness and leap into the abyss.

Only in this way will you be able to bounce back to the highest peaks and open your great pupils wide in the sun.

Because one cannot be of the eagles if one is not of the divers."

It doesn't mean anything. Live Laugh Love by other means. OP the older you get, the less life you have the more you hate life. It is a resentment. There is no real cure for it. Either commit philosophic suicide and join one of the major cults or actual suicide. Why does anyone assume that life has a happy ending? Oh right, we have been lied to for years.
