Capitalists are meritocratic. A capitalist system rewards those who most contribute to society, and capitalists believe those individuals deserve the riches that they earn. I don't consider it greed when you're actively providing things that people want. Bill Gates got rich by developing a company that developed such technology that it changed how people work and eventually changed the means in which we communicate globally. Steve Jobs got rich by developing computer technology as well but also, as far as I understand, developed the first smartphone or if not developed it then most certainly dominated the market with the iPhone that so many people enjoy using. Paragraphs could be written on all the things you can do with a smartphone, it is essentially a tiny computer in and of itself, complete with internet access and web-browsing capabilities along with a massive selection of games to choose from.

Capitalism rewards those who do the most for society. Communism and socialism rewards those who do the least for society while punishing (or as history shows us, outright killing) those who do the most for society. Except the individual at the very top, they're often the one who directly causes much of the killing of those directly under them, essentially making themselves an upper class of one with a lower class of literally everyone else.

The thing about capitalism, however, is that in PERFECT capitalism those who cannot work would be left to starve to death unless they leave society and find a means of self-preservation in the wilderness. Whether it's due to painfully low IQ, physical disability, mental disability, or some other such thing, those who don't work would not get money and without money you cannot sustain yourself. Handing a few coins to a bum in the street, that's a small act of socialism. If I ever find myself to be rich I will most certainly donate a lot of money to charities and I won't pass someone on the street without giving them a $5 bill or some other such thing. That might be a small act of socialism, but that does not make me a socialist, for I do not wish to actively instill socialism on a national level to make the Government FORCE me to give money to those who are without.

So I believe that a VERY well-monitored level of socialism is necessary for a society to function in an ideal manner. Those who simply CANNOT work due to mental or physical means should not be left on the street; provide basic welfare upon a doctor's and/or psychiatrist's evaluation. If a recession or depression hits and people can't find work, likewise provide welfare as a safety net but those who are able-bodied and able-minded should be given all assistance necessary to get them back to work. I myself am an able-bodied and able-minded person on welfare, even though I'm pursuing a career in writing which is going pretty well considering how people typically do when trying to get into this field. I have resumes out there and I'm even going to a program to help me get work; the city I'm in does have a problem with unemployment because there's just not enough jobs out there, in part due to all the immigration and it's only going to get worse.

Anyways, for socialism to not descend into suffering on a MASSIVE scale, capitalism is absolutely needed as the foundation. Capitalism without some elements of socialism would cause suffering as well, though to a smaller degree. A capitalist foundation that has an excessive amount of socialism mounted onto it will result in a weak economy with too much spending. Ideally, most socialist aspects in a society are done on a local level. If you need to see the doctor but you don't have the money for it, go to your local place of worship or your family or something like that to make your plea for donations. Nowadays there are also websites online specifically for the purpose of donating to people. It's best to keep the Government as small as possible; its sole purpose should be the security of the borders with the Military, the security of the people with the Police, and some manner of law and regulations to make sure that EVERYONE has an equal opportunity to play the capitalist game. In short, no cheating. Also, the 'too big to fail' stuff is nonsense and I don't see the point in giving pay-outs. Play the game poorly and you lose.

Well then, hypocrisy is not cool. I guess it's possible that to a small degree I am socialist in that I would like the Government to care for those who cannot care for themselves, however I've made my stance that a strong foundation of capitalism should take precedence so even if there's an unfortunate nugget of socialism within me, it is kept very much in check by a thoroughly capitalist heart and mind. You don't need to tax people out the ass just to care for those who cannot properly partake in society, and the rich MOST CERTAINLY deserve the money they have earned so we shouldn't just get angry at them for their success because that would be disgustingly Marxist.

In an ideal world, everyone would be employed, and the only taxes given to the Government would be used to sustain the Military, Police, and the others who maintain order and fairness in society while everyone plays the game of capitalism. There will always be a gap in wealth because hierarchies are fundamentally a part of how, it would seem, reality itself works. As long as the lower class isn't starving to death, then let the gap remain. The wealthiest in society living at 100% and the poorest in society living at 20% is far better than everyone living equally at 5%, which history shows is precisely what happens when a nation attempts to bring in the socialist utopia.
