Pleb here, read the Brothers Karamazov without knowing shit and greatly enjoyed it.

Prerequisites only exist for works of philosophy, not literature. You might appreciate more of the book if you've read the entire Western canon beforehand but it's not required.

Only the book cover. Reading it won't do you any good. Just hold it as if you've read it and go pick up chicks.

Some Gogol wouldn't do any harm.

The Bible, and maybe Anna Karenina as he is a big fan of Tolstoy and it's one of his favorite works. Another man would probably be Pushkin, as he is referenced a lot in later Russian /lit/

You don't have to read shit. He's one of the most accessible classic writers, that's why everyone on /lit/ loves him. The problems his characters faced remain relevant today. If you're feeling very autismal read the Bible and Chernyshevsky and Gogol and shit but you really don't have to.

>> No.10687880

You're going to need a expert understanding of orthodox theology and a philosophical background in existentialism. All in all it should take 2-3 years before you're ready to pick up a Dostoevsky book, so get started.

>> No.10687888

Nothing. You should read The Queen of Spades. It isn't required, but it is nice.

Yes you do. Half of his books don't really make much sense of out of this context, especially Demons.
