OP here, I'm liking alot of these suggestions. The Castle is coming up alot, but I just discovered one problem - my library no longer has it in stock!

So I guess I wouldn't mind reading on psp if it's as short as The Trial. Any kind anons know where there's an version available for download? Already tried gutenberg.org :(

AN ENQUIRY CONCERNING HUMAN UNDERSTANDING
Immediately, if possible.
Then, if you truly haven't read it, Hamlet, as it will help you get over the lingering malaise from Hume.
Then, Meditations (I assume that's the Marcus Aurelius, it's hard to see), because Stoicism will help you gather the shattered remnants of your worldview.

I was having difficulty with the Hume because of his 18th century? writing style. Would there be a better way to work up to that?

I mean, it was alot easier to understand than Kant but I still had much trouble with it :(

Also, yes that's Marcus Aurelius.

hume is important in understanding 18th century british lit, including the way in which it was written. you just have to reread and persevere if you're really interested in this period of lit. otherwise, move on.

I don't mind persevering but I also hate the thought that I'm just going through it blindly when it might be more beneficial to read the simpler stuff first.

I heard Hume is one of the clearer philosophers though so I shall bare with it & possibly follow your inspired order as I've been meaning to read Hamlet for a long time anyway.

not trolling, just thinking out loud, but...
i had to read Hume (and loved it) because I'm an English major and british lit is my specific focus. but why are you reading it? it's in an important work and everything, but there so much that you could read, why read this? you don't even understand it and probably don't even like it. what i'm saying is, don't read it because you think you should or because everyone says you must. there are so many other works of literature you could read that you would enjoy better, whether "important works of high art and enlightened thinking" or pop lit (see: V for Vendetta, which is really good and british). Information for the sake of obtaining information is useless, a waste of time, and perhaps even destructive. you don't know everything, will never know, so don't try, but instead follow your interests and become knowledgeable it what you like.

tl;dr: do stuff because you want to, not because you think your suppose to.
