I don't know where you fucks get these kinds of numbers. English and Mandarin are quite close to each other in terms of numbers. The only difference is that 90% or Mandarin speakers are L1 speakers, whereas 60% of English speakers are L2. It makes no sense to just compare L1 statistics.

English is standard internet language. If you're not Chinese only very niche uses for the chinese language. As an american it would be better to learn spanish, french, german, italian (in that order)
