Is "The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath" by Lovecraft worth the time?
It's quite long for what it is, and I don't want to make the error I did with The Case of Charles Dexter Ward..

not really. imho the colour out of space is his best story

It mostly explores Lovecraft's dreamlands. If you love those mythological elements, sure. The narrative itself is interesting, if you ask me. It's the classic tale of not knowing what you want. It's like 100 pages or something, you can read it in an hour. I don't see why not.

I see. I'm gonna keep it for when I'm in the right mindset

If you've liked the silver key, the white ship, the quest of iranon, or the strange high house in the mist, you will like the dream-quest

Not to mention Pickman's model and Celephais for the characters. The dreams in the witch-house, cats of Ulthar.
To get the references you should read The doom that came to Sarnath, Azathoth, Other gods. Nyarlathotep The Curious Tale of Charles Dexter Ward, Dunwich Horror, "the misadventures of Randolph Carter", The Call of Cthulhu, The Hound, At the Mountains of Madness.

Hopefully I ain't missing anything, since it almost encompasses all of his works. It's kind of like reading The Divine Comedy, and not knowing the history and literature behind it. Not saying it's as good, far from it, it can be a mess at times, but it touches the most of the works of HPL.

No. Clark Ashton Smith does a better version of dream fantasy.
