Why is it that the creators of my favourite works of literature ended up wretches who destroyed themselves?

Are all writers like this and if you read enough they populate the works you enjoy? Or does this speak more to my self destructive tendencies and attraction to things that enable this. I'm in therapy and trying to get over depression and get off meds but idk if this is contributing to it.

Self-destructive authors touch deeper and more moral issues than "happy" authors. This allows them to show a face of humanity that most prefer not to see, although that negativity exists in every human. For me they are the best authors, the most sincere and those who touch my soul the most. I love them because they make me feel alive.
