While I can only speak for anime and not for 3D whores like in your pic-
I've been thinking for a while about parallels between waifuism (aka moe) and religion.
Ritualistic practices centered around your favorite character - acts of worship, including masturbating to your goddess - collecting charms and objects of affection (consumer goods such as anime figures) for the creation of a shrine or shrines in the home as a vehicle of worship and reverence.
Acting out of loyalty to a supposedly non-existent character and filling your mind with thoughts of them - it echoes the feeling of a "relationship with the unseen divine" that you find in some religious movements.

Personally, coming from a non-material non-sexual examined viewpoint on waifuism I'd frame it anything related to an artistic obsession culminating in death or similar cathartic endpoint. Irene's Cunt? Temple of the Golden Pavilion? I'd imagine waifuing a 3d whore would make those more accessible than if you were infatuated with somebody special who is nonexistent. I can't in good faith recommend anything to somebody in the latter area, But I would recommend staying away if at all possible from comparing yourself to any "otaku" figures, there's no need to sully yourself or her by association by presenting yourself as a negative stereotype of a foreign culture that you have no ties to. Transgender based fiction maybe? gender dysphoria seems to be a prevailing issue among waifuists who went in too deep, I like to think they get so fucked up in their anime brains that they desire to become a sacrament to their favored girl as a way to achieve closeness, but I only endorse that if you also kill yourself while cosplaying as your waifu.
