Is the underground man an archetype of the 4chan NEET? Smart, but not as smart as he thinks he is, extremely insecure, hates everyone but secretly wants their approval, does dumb autistic shit like stalk some guy for 2 years to find the perfect time to bump into him.

What is the cause of this type of person? I think it has something to do with atheism.

POLITICAL CONTEXT

Yeah, this book is much better when looked at as a political piece instead of the philosophical points that every new reader seems to cling to as if it's revolutionary.

atheism doesn't exist. everyone is religious in some aspect, some just happen to worship corporeal things and others non-corporeal

meanings can change over time
the exact political perspective that dosto is satirizing repeats through time, so it can be seen as satirizing the values behind it too.
don't use wikipedia fun facts to try to invalidate something interesting that someone learned from a book

I had a friend who described himself as a underground man, he was on 4chan at the age of 12/13, I met him when he switched to the Orthodox faith. He was then so full of angery to the other people and to himself, but at the other hand he felt better than others. It was connected with his past and many bad things that he have done. I've never known someone like him and it was the hardest realtionship i have. But I miss him and I owe him so much

I think that better hits the mark, but even then you miss a swath of folks who literally don't give it a thought.

Some aspects of the book can relate to the average 4chan NEET. Nevertheless that's not the main point of the book. Instead of this, Dostoievski attacks the modernism and its intent to create the optimal plan for human life where everything is calculated beforehand. He despises this utopia and qualifies it as impossible. Life is inherent irrational and the chaos of history is evidence of that. The underground man is the product of the failure of this utopia.

it might as well be called “diary of an unsaved man” because that’s precisely what it is and was meant to be

btw, his sickness was not atheism but pride (which of course engenders atheism).

Those are the truly religious. They worship at the shrine of apple and adidas. One of them grants intelligence and professionalism the other grants speed and youthfulness

Maybe the first part, when he goes on and on about how sometimes men do whatever the fuck they want. But the latter half, when he meet his former classmates and goes with a whore afterwards, is so close to r9k its not even funny.

Fuck. I just recommended this to a friend seconds ago, come on here and see it on the front page. I haven't been on /lit/ in months. Maybe I should reread it... It's probably been 5 years.
