Yeah it's worth reading but you probably won't understand it if you aren't into metafiction

To be frank I've read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep recently and I've almost completed Pale Fire because I have a soft spot for the Blade Runner films. I definitely recommend Pale Fire if you're into poetry and metafiction. It made me appreciate BR2049 more and (slightly) shares themes of memory and identity.

it's hard to read.

Its a reference. More importantly the baseline test "cells interlinked with cells" is from Pale Fire, so the actual book showing up might be there to help remind you about the lines.

The lines in the book are about a fictional narrator coming to terms with the meaning of death. The baseline test for K is meant to gauge where he is emotionally, so it seems like an OK reference.
