Merry Christmas /lit/, math major here, just finished a class in Axiomatic Set Theory and the professor was very kind, generous with help, and inspired me a lot so I wanted to get him a late Christmas gift.

The class was all on ZFC and very formal mathematics (for an undergrad at least), and a lot of theorems were from Russell, Gödel, and other mathematicians that also worked on analytic philosophy.

Was thinking of getting him Major Works, which is a compilation of Wittgenstein's main works, who was a student of Russell.

Is this book decent enough or should I just get the individual copies of Tractatus, Blue & Brown, etc.

I figured Wittgenstein is out there enough from mathematics that the book would be relevant enough but not something he would have definitely studied before. Any other suggestions?

I once got my Modern Lit. prof. a book of seamanship, and he seemed to enjoy it very much. I saw him carrying it around campus a few times the next quarter.

Your professor probably already has every book related to his field. It'd be better if you got him some offbeat present that you'd think he'd enjoy.

I mean he's almost certainly read Gödel, Escher, Bach right? Could do something as simple as buy him some classic literature? I'm coming to the end of my undergrad course in Physics and most of the lecturers/students are quite bright but not exactly "well-read".

Just buy him a bottle of scotch you absolute faggot. As if a professor wants some presumptuous runt picking his readings for him

I figured Wittgenstein was offbeat enough

Maybe, wanted something somewhat related to his field, and yeah he had probably read GEB already or isn't interested

>>10455610
Ayy, it's related to his field, but the scotch idea seems good

I bet he has a tiny pecker. It's not even gay if it's a tiny mathmatics professor pecker. It's be like swallowing a goldfish as a prank or doing the cinnamon challenge. Give him the one thing he really wants, a little lit succy wucky.
