I understand why people do not appreciate Murakami. He is working from the heart, and some cannot see or accept that. People throughout history have been angered by geniuses. If this were the middle ages Murakami would have been crucified. This is not an exaggeration. There is something special in his books. They evoke feelings. He is like a quiet spiritual leader. All authors are spiritual leaders but Murakami is at the forefront. He is leading a generation of scared and lost young adults into consciousness. Consciousness of what it means to be a human. Murakami will be remembered for centuries because of this. He is on the level of the greats such as Joyce if not slightly greater because his voice is more distinct. Please please just read his books and open your heart.

wow how old is he in this pic what a cutie the cat is good too

murakami is a good storyteller but once you start making your way through his catalog it all starts to read like pulpy sameness. it seems like he's been running on the same ideas for a while now. his writing is occasionally moving but more often than not pretty standard fare.

hard to imagine someone reading kafka on the shore 50 years from now and having any sort of profound experience the same way you hear people nowadays talking about something like portrait of a young artist. could be wrong though.

also hard boiled wonderland is tight and doesn't get discussed enough around here
