Hyperbole of course, but it reminded of modern YA because it’s written in an extremely solemn tone that it never justifies imo. It tries to do so with a pointless and cheap death which is right up John Green’s alley.

2666 can be daunting, it has supposedly left a huge legacy for Bolaño. But in reality all you technically have is an unfinished novel comprised of different parts, kinda like the Furst Puckler Icecream, its made of three good flavors on their own, but you have to be a real monster to enjoy them together one after the other, especially strawberry the Objectively Worse flavor of them all.

The image is also about the ending where it quite literally has two characters talking about the creator of the Furst Puckler icecream and how he will be remembered for the icecream and not his outstanding achievements in life.

I thought the same thing . . . a lot of interference from the gods, an awesome episode involving a cyclops . . . not really sure what you're trying to get at here. Did the repetition of phrases like "rosy-fingered dawn" and "wine-dark sea" bothrr you THAT much? Do you not understand their function in the rhapsodic tradition that the epic originated from? Sorry but your post really triggered me.

John Green spends most of the book philosophizing about free will and the nature of the self.

It's also about someone with a mental disorder pushing everyone away from her and almost killing herself.

>is he a good writer

Well, I didn't like The Fault in Our Stars at all. His characters do come off as obnoxious a lot of the time (breakfast foods etc). And with Turtles All the Way Down, you'll still have to read passages like pic related which are either hilariously cringe-worthy or just plain bad depending on who you are.

But Aza's compulsions are pretty accurate depictions of OCD (the fact that Green has it himself really shows) and the parts where she is in an existential crisis were pretty interesting. If you can stomach Wookie fan fiction, I'd recommend reading Turtles All the Way Down over anything else he's written.

The Horus Heresy is amazing but it's also long as fuck and going to near 50 novels soon, so... Probably not a worthwhile investment unless you're certain it strikes a chord with you. It did with me. If you're into tragedies, sci-fantasy, and have a hard-on for antiquity and the Romans you're sure to like it. Plus, it has no romance whatsoever and barely any females, which is a thumbs up from me no matter what I'm reading.

It's kind of interesting. Twain hated Sir Walter Scott, blamed him for the Civil War. Felt that his depictions of chivalry and medieval honor had influenced the South in a deeply unhealthy way (though it was probably more a byproduct of a plantation economy). This book is basically an extended fuck you to the prevailing romantic notion of a medieval age of chivalry, and wound up warping how we perceive the medieval period.

Man, I haven't been on /lit/ in over a year and I sure am glad that this meme has never died. But honestlyб I'm absolutely laughing my ass off at the absurdity of this image. Anyone with even the faintest knowledge of history would know that the "corn" that Caesar speaks of in Commentaries On The Gallic War is not the corn that we in the west are familiar with, but is rather a poor translation for the word "grain" which in Latin is "Frumentum"

Myself and many others who have read the commentaries would know what you're trying to refer to with your image but it's wrong. Unless of course you were already aware of this and you are posting this ironically. In which case I commend you for your post but it's still blatantly wrong. I would have gone with a collage of images of wheat instead.
