Idiot. NEETs are man-children. The opposite of what neitzche called for. What neitzche is talking about is crossing the abyss--to lose innocence, and then to also abandon cynicism--to embrace the world as though you are naive and believing even after you have lost every reason. N did not advocate nihilism, but said it was an outgrowth of the modern world. His goal was to ferry people across the void. He, like you, wanted to be a catcher in the rye. But he, unlike you, realized this could only be done with sincerity and authenticity, and without any bitterness or resentment. Else you are Holden Caulifield, and you will kill yourself before you accomplish anything to prevent yourself from failing.

>wage slavery
Existence is not slavery. Survival is not slavery. Work is not slavery. No one is tying you to anything. To be a NEET, to exist on welfare, to demand any kind of benefit from others is selfish and absurd. If you exist only on the welfare of others, then you are imposing on them the need to work even harder than they otherwise would because of your laziness. It's a perversion of charity and good will. To criticize others for working while you profit off their labor is the height of hypocrisy. In this system, you are the one exploiting others. If you do not contribute to society, then living a safe and comfortable life is a privelage. Only those who work have any claim to what is "earned". Your choices are your own, and no one else's. Your life is your responsibility and you are the only one who will be held to account for it.

at what point does using the word "nigger" become artistically unacceptable?
I just did a search for nigger in my 55,000 word novella and it returned 11,986 results.
Is this too much? I want to write realistically but does there come a point where it detracts from the artistry?
It's a modern day story dealing with many present-day social issues and my main character is what most would consider a "racist" and so he is very flippant with the word's use but I'm worried that publishers will not accept my novella or see its artistic merit because of this and instead condemn it for being insensitive or intentionally inflammatory. But how else am I supposed to write this sort of character?
How often should I use the word?

This is the worst crap I've ever seen. Mill and Comte created mechanical explanations? I suppose the mechanical philosophers from the early modern period never existed, nor did the atomists or greek philosophers that made references to wonders and automatons? Also, Deleuze claims that Nietzsche inverted Kant. So how the fuck on this reading is Deleuze mostly agreeing with Nietzche who agrees with Kant? Also, Foucault was agreeing with Nietzsche on the nature of origins and genealogy with respect to truth, not about fucking finality and telos of the grounds of rationality. The James stuff is a major mis-interpretation, he gives priority to a negative theology in the Varieties, but certainly says we shouldn't take it as truth. That's literally what the final chapter is about. The analytic stuff is trash as well. "Let's keep it in house". Oh no! Davidson is doing something very similar to Derrida in terms of language, but we can't have pluralistic approaches! Gotta laugh at the guys that treat philosophy like a football match, especially the continentals. All this talk about pluralism and difference, yet when someone tackles the same topics with similar conclusions but different methods, the faggot monkey politics comes out (but remember, human nature is a meme!). Really no different to continental-hating analytics.

I could go on with this, but none of these screen shots makes much sense and comes across as garbage.

This reads like some second year pseud architecture or sociology major who got all this continental philosophy explanations either from wikipedia or some purple-haired fat chick that did her PhD on vagina poetics.

presumably it's a reference to nomothetic vs. idiographic, i.e., the dissolution of the barrier between the geisteswissenschaften vs. the naturwissenschaften (nb: geisteswissenschaften is a german translation of mill's 'moral sciences'; comte is the originator of the kind of positivism that denuded human science of the necessity of historicity and led to durkheim and later quantitative sociology)

Nothing you've said is relevant to the claims being made, and I'm not the one here with a shit historical understanding. He is attributing the idea of mechanical philosophy in his personal bizarre genealogy to Mill and Comte. He states, "what if humans aren't made of special sauce, but are actually lots of little mechanisms, and we can understand them as easily as any other physical mechanism?" Which actually has it roots in the early modern period: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_philosophy and arguably earlier via Aristotle, the Atomists, and others. There were several early moderns who made the same claim (humans are mechanical, and there is no soul-like explanations, teleological explanations, or vitalistic explanations. While there were others that took substance dualist approaches and vitalist approaches). There is a good argument to be made that Descartes thought similarly and was writing esoterically (explicitly flip-flopping in his letters between describing humans as machines, then backtracking to dualism when questioned about this). Hilarious that a so-called "continental" can't into genealogy and the history of ideas. If you had actually done some philosophy broadly over historical, analytic, continental, pragmatist, and naturalist schools -- and weren't a status-striving film theory bugman pseud -- you'd recognize he was incorrect.

>i think the point is ...

>"Mechanism" used loosely to describe it (i.e., the law-like regularity of structural covering-law descriptions of natural systems operating only under material and efficient causation as res extensa, which comte and mill explicitly said could be applied to the human, right on the tail-end of 100+ years of french "iatromechanism" and "reflex"-driven "mechanism" (contemporary terms) in constructivist sciences of the human and the 19th-century wildfire craze for epiphenomenalism and explicitly positivistic hard deterministic explanations of human agency, conventionally called "mechanistic" by virtually everybody since newton's proto-kantian structural "mechanics" on which they are based, and ever after by historians of the social sciences (e.g., opposed to "organistic" or morphological models, see for example alan macfarlane's typology), all of which windelband and rickert explicitly denounced in the generation directly after positivism
>reply with UHHHHHH? ARE YOU TELLING ME "MECHANISMS" NEVER EXISTED BEFORE THIS?

non sequitur

>Which actually has it roots in the early modern period

yes, a.o. lovejoy and his beloved idol of origins, no one is disputing that. what is at issue is whether nomothetic-positivistic social science, or rather the naturwissenschaften to which it is being compared, can be described as mechanistic, which they very very very often are. carlyle: the world as "one great big dead steam-engine." comte and mill say it explicitly many times themselves. you are just taking:
>Humans aren't special. They are made of mechanisms.
which is ACTUALLY intended to mean:
>An explanation of human agency and human action would be methodologically indistinguishable from a structurally mechanistic, positivistic account of natural physical processes, There is no idiographic 'soul' that differentiates man from nature.
and taking it to mean
>Uhhhhhhhh? The atomists talked about mechanism as well?

no shit. and they were followed by thousands of years of christians, including those in the 18th century, like von haller himself (the unwitting originator of iatromechanistic bio-mechanics) who despised the reduction of the idiographic to the merely nomothetic.

the only question at hand is whether the positivist human sciences paradigmatically associated with comte and mill can be said to promote a mechanistic philosophical anthropology, a claim which has been common parlance and a truism IN their writings and ever since.

i hope you enjoy undergrad, anon. look back on it fondly when you work in something unrelated for the rest of your life.

No you dumb shit, for all your talk you've completely missed the point. The original context for that thread of your screenshot asks for the difference between continental and analytic philosophy (btw you couldn't be more obvious in shilling your own bullshit, what sort of arrogant asshole squats his own screenshots? Unless of course you posted it yourself as said above). Your post then takes Mill and Comte as the origins of analytic philosophy through mechanical philosophy, as if this somehow is solely tied to analytic philosophy in its origins when it is:
a) a banal observation since mechanism is associated with early modern natural philosophy in general, and has been a factor in the sciences and natural philosophy since the beginning,
b) isn't a truthmaker for the difference between continental philosophy since D&G refer to material mechanism throughout their co-authorship drawing on Spinoza's affective mechanism.
c) isn't really true of analytic philosophy in general because there were early analytics like C.D. Broad who influenced further analytics with competing visions to mechanism e.g. emergence and dynamical systems, a non-reductive program echoed in Deleuze, Delanda, and others.
d) isn't true of your definition involving law-like regularities and Hempel's covering laws because firstly, Hempel's CL explanations weren't given till mid 20th c, and secondly most post-Hempel mechanists don't buy into such a causal explanation (see Woodward). Your description of it as involving covering-laws is historically inaccurate presentist bullshit. You're really making a presentist mistake here, several times over which is typical of historicist-types, by applying philosophical ideas in places that didn't exist. Instead of doing an accurate genealogy of what is happening, you are jumping all over the place and applying theoretical terminology to situations in which it didn't exist in the time periods you are talking about.

Please write another 1000 words that have nothing to do with your original distinction and add some more whig history.
