>"I'm writing this as a warning"
>"we went on a sea trip"
>"we found some stupid shit"
>"i saw some real shit"
>"im going mad and probably going to die soon, dont repeat my mistakes"
>repeat for 30 short stories
why does everyone praise him? His prose is cringe worthy and pretentious as fuck too.

He actually wrote a lot of other shit. Like in one, a dude found out he had a hereditary curse and was going to basically become a serial killing monster and could do nothing to stop it.

That said, even though your straw man is just that, I do think he was pretty overrated.

The spoiled milk in my fridge stands solemn, alone, emanating an aura of incomprehensible dread. The once translucent bottle is covered in an eldritch rime, the patterns bloated, slurred, indistinct. Something is tirring deep within this vessel.

>>10302935 it was good but why did this board hype this specific one up?
It was great toward the end but the pacing... Took like half the story to stop describing his house and misc shit and begin the story

This criticism could be made of almost any great writer. Writers have a limited repertoire based on what they've experienced in their life and what their psyche is like, it's not like they can be totally original and creative. Often, we call a writer greater if his repertoire is much greater and less original, but even writers like Goethe, Joyce, Nabokov or Shakespeare can be criticized for having similar themes/formats of stories repeating throughout their writings. It just depends on whether you like what they're doing and how subtly they change the variations of the one perfect artwork in their head.
