In the last few months I've been more successful as an essayist than a fiction writer. But it's much better than nothing.

I know that if I ever end up completing something it will take me well over ten years if not twenty or more. I don't see myself making my career as a writer although that is what I ideally would be spending most of my time doing (and yet... I am here)

That sucks. I bet you could complete a novel in a year if you tried. Oh well.

I'm being considered for a writing gig in vidya. Also working at building a portfolio of interactive fiction in Twine so future employers know I don't fuck around. Gonna make it brehs.

Going to start next November and drop my new novella by the end of December.
Will give free copies conditionally.

Writing curriculum content is fine, and probably something I'm better at than fiction.

No, it's a gorgeous Mexican roastie who has been commercially published more times than you.

I'm going to make it boys. I'm going to publish some terrible sparse poetry and make a moderately sustainable income. I'll still have a part time job, but I'll only need to work a day or two a week while I live off my book dosh.

I'll do a shout-out to you when it's ready to drop.

I have a list of twelve short story ideas. When that number reaches twenty, I'll organise them in ascending order of coolness and work my way up the list.

I plan to write the bottom ten to entertain myself and practice, then write the top ten to seek criticism from a writing group.

Is this a dumb plan? Am I overthinking it?

Nah, that's a good plan as long as you're actively seeking out and recording plot ideas and not just waiting for shit to wander into your mind whenever-the-fuck from now. Good luck anon.

Is talent or voice more important for a writer?

I’m getting two pieces published in my uni’s lit mag. It’s odd, after receiving countless rejection letters and gradually learning to deal with it, I don’t really know how to deal with the “success”. To complicate matters, I’m not really sure what I did “right” in these pieces, so im kind of stuck at an impasse between feeling like it was a fluke or just knowing that my best works are the ones that I don’t really understand.
I’m trying to get better at writing personal academic essays lately, but I’ve been too depressed to keep up with my daily journals to polish some ideas.

There's no accounting for taste. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. You never know what other people are going to think of your work, and you never know which of your works they'll like and which they won't. I've only gotten three short stories published. One of them was what I thought was among my best, one of them was a fantasy story I wrote, and one was something I didn't think much of. You never know how what you write is going to strike someone, not completely.

I wish that creative writing thread hadn't died out, having people r8 my work is motivating.
