Will ebooks ever completely replace physical books?

>> No.10251287

God, I hope not.

Never, I can't stand looking at a screen for too long even with f.lux

No, because city/university libraries will never go completely digital, and because when the current generation of kids grows up and has kids, those will still have 100s of functional paperbacks in their homes, like we have our parents' books from the 1960|70s. Worst outlook for books is they're going to outsurvive us by 60 years, and then start falling apart and become antiques. If you want something to worry about, worry about declining quality of libraries and the potential death of piracy/file-transfer through DRM and [d/]evolving access platforms.

Actually they just brought the price down from $6.00 (average, between tough to find $15 books and flea market dollar books) to whatever part of what you payed your ISP and computer manufacturer could be considered "for books". Most of everyone doesn't even have computers.

So the middle class can now avoid the trouble of commuting to a bookstore. Whoa!

I forgot to say:
- Library cards have always been cheaper than subscribing to internet service. They even let the homeless come sit there for free for a few hours.
- You still can't access everything for free, and only most things if you're a pirate. I know most of you have gotten away with it for most of your lives, but there is still a legal "price" to this.

That's all.

No. Some people fetishize phisical books

there's something sexy and arounsing in general about them

I thought so until I started trying to read them instead of physical, and the consensus fits my experience: eye strain and not as pleasurable as reading several ounces of paper and ink. That being said, ebooks are great for reading in odd places, like at work or in a car

Same. The only reason why I read on my phone is that I can't be bothered to carry a book with me. As soon as I find a good looking coat with huge pockets or a backpack I like I'll completely go back to physical books. I already do this with thin paperbacks that can be "rolled up" to fit into my pocket.

I don't think so, but I hope so. Torrenting any book for free, that would be nice.
