Let me explain this post. The lack of capitalization is intended to imply dismissiveness, the idea being that the poster of the text cares so little about who they are responding to that they will not even extend the courtesy of a complete reply.

"haha oh wow" is a catchphrase, used here to convey amusement and contempt at the screenwriter's pride in his profession.

"that's really cool ... best of luck" is sarcasm. We can assume that the author of the post does not in fact think it's cool; in light of the dismissive format of the post, we may also assume he does not care about the luck of the person to whom he is replying.

The onomatopoeia for laughter at the end doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Probably he assumes that the post will be read as a transcript of speech, thus allowing the laughter to retain derisive impact? Uncertain.

and as for someone saying that screenwriting isn't really writing, hell I would never do it (incredibly difficult field to succeed in) but I have a lot of respect for people that can. It's storytelling in an incredibly pure form, and anyone that says it isn't writing has never read a screenplay.

my sister got her masters in journalism at stanford and took a few screenwriting classes along the way, and she told me about how writing screenplays helped her develop her literary voice for her journalistic efforts as well as the book she's getting published.

i wasn't in the screenwriting program at NYU, but i studied creative writing there in undergrad before transferring. it's a different story if you're going for grad, and it's a slightly different story when we're talking about the film school, but generally NYU is waaaaaaaaay overrated -- or rather, its students are way overrated.
