>But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever.

Despite Marx accusing Burke of being a paid shill (an accusation lifted from Paine), I find that Marx took quite a bit from Burke’s well-informed assessment of the French Revolution as being essentially a business venture of the “moneyed interest” (which Burke contrasts with the “landed interest”).

Has anyone here read The Abolition of Man, by C.S. Lewis? If not, go do so. Top tier introduction to the basis of conservative thought. In the work, C.S. Lewis maintains that beauty, truth and morality have a common basis, and that you don’t need to be a Christian or even a theist to grasp this.

I wish there were a single bibliography with several sub-divided lists, collating all literature philosophy and social theory that has this basic perspective

I can't even say what that perspective is, it's something like faith in the human, or respect for human becoming and heroism rather than just seeing people as machines

Yes OP I've read Abolition of Man as well as Burke's writings. Really good stuff, everyone should read it.

Bump for Burke. I see a lovely statue of his every morning going into uni.
