>tfw alcoholic, quiet, verbally intelligent """underachiever""" phil/x student well liked by my professors despite ghosting their classes for weeks for personal/mental issues

Start overachieving.

Wow OP, that's so cool. Would you say that you're like Rick from Rick and Morty? You know, the uh, the really smart pickle guy from television?

>"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. " C.Coolidge

>underachiever
Ther is no such thing. Your capacity to grind, fail, start again is the only and ultimate metric. you'll only go as far as your work capacity takes you.

Either get to work, or accept being stupid if you're not going to put those brains to concrete work. Intelligence is wasted on laziness, great soil is useless if you don't bother sowing and seeding it.

This is this point of the anonymous post on a board that will garner no recognition. I am literally the archetype this board thinks of itself as. I will live a middling normal life and die a middling normal life, never writing something that validates or redeems what I or you feel at 17-23. For every genius that accomplishes the dream there are literally hundreds of people wondering why not to blow our brains out out of frustration.

How do you philosophically justify any importance placed on prose?

i used to be that way, then i decided to get down to business

a bit too late mind you, and with too many issues to ever realize what was once my full potential.

but i got a professional degree, have a meaningful job that is better than most of the Bba corporate wage slaves. maybe in a few years i'll complete a doctoral degree and live out the rest of my life as an academic, or maybe i'll keep building my practice.

the most important thing is to set yourself up with a manageable life. find out the minimum you need to be satisfied and make sure you get at least that far.

why would understanding something through one set of symbols be more difficult than using another set of symbols unless the other symbols pertained to something more complex?
