>reading a book I don't really enjoy.
>tiny dumb ape brain refuses to let me start a new one until i finish it
Anyone the same way?

Nope. My reading life is honestly bliss. When I find a book unrewarding, I drop it.

No. I think I've only finished one novel in the past four years but I read all the time. Usually I get bored or my impulse to read the given novel goes away 3/4ths of the way through and I pick up another book. Most of my book collect still have all the bookmarks in them where I stopped.
I can usually get through philosophy and nonfiction though.

I just start a new one anyway and get back to finishing the old one at some later time, if at all.

My main problem is that university gets in my way of actually reading anything that isn't a textbook. If hell is a place, admittance is falling for the STEM meme.

yes I find it hard to start books too
I have OCD and I wonder how much I can really differentiate "myself without OCD" and "myself with OCD". Some things aren't exactly symptoms but I feel like the underlying neurosis and maybe even normal perfectionism contributed to, or made good soil for this illness. Or maybe the distinction between the "illness" and "me as myself" is facetious, and there's no way to predict what I would be like without being the version of me that has OCD

Just stop, anon. You will get nothing out of it if you hate the process. I listened to an album yesterday but turned it off after two thirds because I didn't enjoy it. Just look for something new to read that actually interests you.

Pepe I'm not a stranger. You've known me your whole life! Remember when you couldn't sleep because you just knew someone was under the bed but you were too afraid to check? Or when everyone in school laughed at you? Or when your parents divorced? I was always there Pepe. I'm the truest friend you have.

I just finished The Myth of Sisyphus and got literally nothing out of it.

I can't start a new one until i finish whatever i'm reading as well
But since i hoard books i can be a little picky about what i intend to start, so i don't get bored midway trough it
