Advice for someone who wants to start writing? I have some ideas, but the thought of starting or executing it poorly is daunting.

Write for yourself, dont stress it, don't try to be anything or impress anyone. Just write what you think is fun, at least at first. Having other people read your writings comes way later.

Lay down the basic blocks of what you want the "scene" to be first if you feel like you cant get into the flow and it feels unnatural/unnerving. Single sentences. Then keep adding and building on those. Before you know it you have enough building blocks to form something.

You will execute it poorly. The trick is not in the writing it's in the re-writing. Poor writers have this in common; they don't revise their work. Think of it as finishing a piece of wood, sanding it down with an incrementally less coarse sheet of sandpaper. Eventually your writing will be smooth.

Set aside some time each day for nothing but writing. An hour or two or five, whatever it is that you decide don't do anything but writing. If you have nothing to write about just sit at your desk and stare at blank piece of paper for however much time you set for yourself every single day. Don't do any writing outside of this time. If you want to be productive you need to be disciplined and this is how you do that. In this way you're also training your brain to become creative when you get down to business.
