i'd say that the kind of functionalist utopy described there or its illusion died at the end of the XX century.

A novel that perfectly suits the topic doesn't come to my mind right now. But i'd say that the next Ursula K. Le Guin works are both great reads and a pretty good portrait of plausible societal models including the current one.
