Best translation for We? I want to get into more soviet science fiction or just soviet writers in general.

Here's my opinion: it's just not a very good book.

I suppose it's worth reading since it's the first dystopian novel of its kind, but I was really let down when I read it, can't remember which translation it was but that wasn't the issue.
The whole narrative feels unnatural, clunky and suffers from that overbearing style most russians have without the redeeming qualities of passion that make it worth the read.

id agree with this and add that any translation should be ok - this isnt great poetry, the translations are probably better than the original actually

It's shit, don't bother. Everything it inspired managed to surpass it in every way possible. Of historical interest only.

I don't know if I'm a brainlet but We was so hard to get through; everything was so damn unclear

I don't think it was a bad book, but I totally see what you mean.
I read it after reading brave new world and 1984, and I was disappointed.
But it was a really important foundation for Orwell and Huxley, and you have to appreciate it for that.

Read the Strugatsky brothers (Roadside Picnic is a good start), Bulgakov (Heart of a Dog, Master and Margarita).

OP, you have to read Andrey Platonov "Foundation Pit".

All the english translations don't read that well. I have a feeling the original Russian sucks in the first place.
